Not hating, first of all I'm just one person on this forum, second I very much appreciate your effort (and thanked you in your posts!), third some kind of 'standard N900 icon' is very useful IMO and lack of that is definately not your fault or anything.
I was thinking, how does the device look when it is before you:
Now ask yourself the question: what is typical of this look?
1) The screen inside the device. That is well done, except the proportions are a bit off.
2) The NOKIA logo (which you cannot use but continue reading) and the lighter grey shade
3) As well as the camera/proximity_sensor/and other stuff on the left side
4) Also, if you look carefully, the left and right side are not straight, they are slightly round/curved.
Side note: since your icon is small the above is not easy to implement. In small icons, details might be less important relevant (and even omitted) than in big icons.

Don't mess around too much. If you were to change one thing, make the screen a bit less wide.
[EDIT]Case in point: Fennec start up screen. Nice, but does not show my device.
Also, you could tilt the device in landscape mode between 0 and 45 degrees instead of keeping it fully horizontal. My point was (and is) that I'd want the device more resemble a Nokia N900; not that the device has to be exactly shown as in landscape mode.
[/EDIT]
