This is the best argument against all Google products. I am not hysterically, I am using Google maps and Youtube regularly but when it gets to personal stuff, avoid it as much as you can: Gmail, Calendar, Android.

I don't know what kind of pockets you have but my OQO fits in my shirt pocket (although just barely - I usually carry it in my front pants pocket). It's about the size of a package of 3x5 index cards - a bit wider and longer than the N810 but mainly thicker.

And, except here, when most people say tablet they are not talking about NITs. If anything they are talking about even bigger tablets in the 7-9" screen range. If you look at Google News for Year of the Tablet (a CES catch-phrase) you'd be hard pressed to find a mention of the N770, N800, N810, or even N900.

Huge amount of money to Nokias pocket and realizing that you paid for Potential. People making work with this device and right now it´s perhaps as not reliable as it should be in that kind of environment. But yep YMMV.

Nokia innovates a lot. Last time i check (6 months ago) there was 4700+ patents.
I dunno about Google but I read at Engadget (of course there, where else to suck up so much to Apple) that Apple has also close to 10.000. Another thing is that, dont let number of patents fool you. IBM has and had truck loads of it and almost died years back....

Thankfully, this could NEVER happen if you avoid Google.

That's not to say that Google can't seriously change the mobile landscape down the line. A third party offering consumers a suite of unlocked cellphones before they shop for a carrier is a model that empowers consumers.
I laughed out loud there... yeah, hello Google? Its Finland on the line....

*whisper* try searching on 'Internet Tablets' You might find things like the Archos and the Samsung and --gasp-- Nokia!

Besides that, as you even pointed out, look at the context of where you're having your conversation and you should realize that a tablet in this context is something small. Pocket-sized, even.

i consider a tablet an internet tablet. which this is. an oqo is a computer- doesnt it run xp for god sake

That may be true, but I think he's talking about the image a general person in the population will have in mind, versus the image someone in the maemo.org forums will have in mind. It comes down to the context of where you're having this conversation and so it's perfectly reasonable for you to equate the image of a 'tablet' with the idea of a pocket sized little computer that's always available for browsing and general computing.

Data breach in one service is one thing...
Another thing is if your entire on-line life is in one service provider.

What if someone finds your google account password?
Or if google wakes up in a bad mood and just decides to lock you out from your account? (like happened to me) Or if it just decides that I have violated one section of the TOS (that I bet very few people pay attention to) and it kicks you out from its services forever...

I am a big google fan and I like many of its products... But once I realized how much info they are gathering, maps, videos, news, ads, search, desktop and now they are following me on my pocket, I decided that it is better, for me, a more fragmented on-line life for a bit more privacy and assurance that I wont be locked out when I want to upload my pics or read the news...

But that is me...
Sometimes I tend to look over my shoulder to check if someone is following me... Paranoid android.
