But yeah, like I said before. I call BS on running 30 apps at once. Try running 30 open browser windows and see what happens.
The same thing that will happen if I try and open 30 browser windows on my quad-core desktop with 4gb of RAM. Running 30 browser windows is not the same as 30 different apps but rather one app (browserd) being overtaxed which forces it to timeslice and swap. Add to that the fact that certain web pages (and plugin) are notorious for being resource hogs and it's no wonder that the system gets 'slow and laggy' as you put it.

The bottom line is the number of apps that can be run comfortably on the N900 is inconsequential. Whether it's 20, 24, or 30 (and plenty of YouTube proof showing that) - it's still multiples more than any other mobile device on the market at the moment.

Understandable, I suppose. TL;DR version: Running 30 apps at once ≠ Running 30 browser windows.

The post after yours also sums up my point rather well, if you find his writing style less sleep-inducing.

I'm not sure you should be dispensing advice. Multitasking doesn't suspend with minimizing, nor does drawing of the app. Windows suspends updating the user, (and stops _requesting_ updates) thus lowering the load on the system, but the app keeps drawing to its heart's content.

Al long as the app isn't hindered in any sense, it's multitasking. Games keep running when minimized, it's a design requirement for a game to be aware of keys and states, like alt-tab, loss of focus, minimizing. Games pause themselves, nothing gets suspended short of a manual intervention.

Older Windows moved minimized windows off-screen. In Windows 95, if you had desktop panning you could pan down to minimized windows. Effectively, minimizing was a software flag. Newer Windows have separate rendering spaces so they are simply removed form the final composition.

How is this not multitasking?

Stating personal opinion on tmo is ok but from what I read you're just arguing about solid facts and numbers
I hope you're not so conditioned to take sides that would regard balance opinions as personal hatred toward you. Give me the solid numbers you've just mentioned and we're done here.

To be honest, if I was the OP's mates I would disown him for having such an embarassing phone. Kick him to the curb, sister. You go girl. It's true. Imagine being in a pub and you all have iPhones and Androids, and then one of your crew hoists out an N900. Need steroids to get that thing out as well. Nah, it's shameful. A shameful experience.

Firstly, 30 microb windows? Seriously? I don't even do that on my desktop... even when I'm like heavily watching youtube vids/ opening guitar chord sites...

flash DOES cause the browser to slow down a bit (if not a lot).. i did try disabling the flash plugin (easily done in the settings) and boy did things speed up significantly..... until I went to tennis.com and couldn't get the flash and went "OH crap... I need to turn this ***t back on!"

About N900 vs Iphone.... I can never deny the intuitiveness of the Iphone and why it has attracted many... it is VERY appealing to the eyes and that is a major thing for many users right (the transitions)? I too am very attracted to it (the screen resolution is indeed nice) and if I could, I'd have gotten the N900 AND the Iphone for VERY different reasons. In fact, I don't see why those who can afford just get the 2 and be done with it... solves all the debate..

I couldn't live without the multitasking ability of maemo. I mean, it really has been such a dream especially with shortcutd installed, half-press and tap, half-press and tap... some friends of mine going "how did you do that? I didn't see you tap the screen just then..."

Especially now with all the extra tweaks we're getting from the CSSU, the transitions are starting to get realllllly good now on the N900... in fact, it's even better now because now WE HAVE OPTIONS. we have a choice on what are the desired effects we want on our phone... and THAT is something that other phones truly do not have.

Seriously Sister, 30 apps? I don't even do that on my desktop, except when I want to wave my e-penis around.

I'd expect posts like this to populate a forum called "forum.MarriedCouples.com"... and it would read:
"Help, my husband thinks that I'm fat. What do?!?!"
