Count me as another USB port casualty. My port is finnicky, and rarely charges properly or consistently.
Bad design choice, and Nokia had better fix this, or else.

I bought new sealed on from ebay seller and should receive it Monday. I emailed Nokia Support last week asking about warranty and the person that responded stated the warranty is tied to the IMEI number and to give them that to know if covered. Does anyone know if this is true? I have already ground down tabs on usb cable and plan on doing that to the charger to try and mitigate damage. Really nervous after reading this thread

its 2 weeks after i got my n900 when i read about this thread, until now, my n900's usb port is fine, just file those tabs down coz it'll help a lot.
you should really give you IMEI to nokia so they can determine if you device is registered under warranty. or check their website.
NOTE: your warranty depends on the region you order your n900

When did you get yours? I got mine in December and it still okay. I think people who got it earlier usually having this issues but a lot of people got it after January still having this issues as well...
I don't know.. But I always carefully plug my USB into it. Since after I've heard about this matter on this forum, I have grown my awareness to be more extra careful. I treat my N900 like a princess since day 1 lol.
I hope to have a long term relationship with it

Latest update from me:
Just picked up my phone from the shop that sent it to Nokia Care for me.
Nokia sent it back refusing to repair it due to "evidence of user damage".
As if that wasn't aggravating enough, they sent it back without any USB port whatsoever.
Previously I could charge/use the USB in certain positions, now obviously I can't do anything at all.
I've now contacted consumer direct and my credit card company has also informed me that they will help me via another department that deals with these sort of issues but they're only open Monday to Friday. So I'll contact them too....
