It seems like a level headed review. What's interesting is the size comparison which seems to be at the heart of many Tab/Pad debates. Just as the reviewer states, depending upon which side you fall on, you'll have found your device.

Another interesting point is the App Store vs. the Android Market. The tremendous success of iOS to date has provided tons of software, and if this were a key criteria for choosing a platform, then the choice would be simple: get the iOS device. Also, I hear that the Android Market needs some serious work, as it's not presented very well.

However, things are changing quite rapidly on this front as the Android App market is not only getting much needed upgrades, it's also getting much needed applications/games from seasoned development studios. Additionally, there are markets being created (for better or worse).

Leaving your laptop at home is a very interesting idea, and with a 10" screen it would be far nicer than a 7" screen. But I would bet that it largely depends on the type of work being done. With the type of development work I do, I could not use either as a laptop replacement. I suspect though, that for most people that are cranking out emails and reading PDFs, this would be a fine replacement.

But there's one more aspect that is rarely delved into, and that's longevity. While the iPad is hot right now, another year from now, it will likely be replaced by its successor and fall prey to the hands of obsolescence. This is a trend with Apple hardware which is good and bad. It's good in that all apple owners have the latest devices and thus the eco-system is fully of shiny new gadgets, it's bad that the devices tend to have an expiry date on them and the closed nature makes this date firm. I have a 2-year old iPod touch which is subject to this. I won't buy another.

Unfortunately this point is hard to communicate to the masses when talking about the value equation and of course is different depending on the individual. I for one like to know that I can call on an old friend to get me by even after it's been replaced in the market by a sleeker device. I'm saddened that Nokia dumped support for the N810 and Apple dumped support for my iPod touch.

It was a fair review, but certainly from an apple proponent's perspective -- as the reviewer admitted and references akin to a 'FaceTime' app being missing on the Tab . You'll find that the camps are very polarized on the Tab vs. Pad debates; this review doesn't surprise me one bit. In fact, moving from either system, I'd expect complaints to features lacking compared to the system you're used to.

There are so many variables to compare when comparing these two devices due to their wildly different systems and screen sizes. It largely comes down to your wants and needs. After that, the choice is easy.

That said, I strongly considered an iPad earlier in the year. But I'm pretty sold on the Galaxy Tab. Will I regret it? Maybe. I might just realize that I'd like a bigger screen, but at this point, the Tab is a companion rather than a replacement, so I predict a smaller screen might work better. I also have a BT keyboard, for longer SSH sessions. I don't like being locked in an herded into paying more money, which is something that iOS devices are good at. I do like customization, experimentation, etc, and as such Android works for me in this regard. For me, the choice is easy. But the same criteria that I choose wouldn't necessarily work for another person.

We're over 1300 hundred posts in and for what? I never thought you were gonna buy one of these devices, and I'm more sure of it now. By the time you finally make up your mind (never), there will be more compelling offerings. Don't you think it's time to shut it down?

Who else? Don't you think this borders on forum abuse? What if we all decided to do what you've done for any device that interests us? Let it die already, or start a blog and make one last post with a link.

Why are you trying to bait me into a public fight? The stab at be being indecisive never purchasing the Tab seems indicative of such. You don't know me, my purchasing patterns, or my motives.

Read the forum title. It's the Galaxy Tab Info thread. Moreover, I've gotten great feedback on this forum (which I did not start). Don't like it? Don't read it.

The moment that people stop viewing and commenting is the moment I will do the same.

I remember when I started the 'What would you realistically like to see in the N900' thread, which was hugely popular (much more so than this) and viewed by Nokia employees and users alike. I don't remember hearing any complaints then.

The underlying theme of this retort? Jog on. It's not for you.

Isn't it meant to be a public forum? And one extra thread does not reduce the number of other threads available on the site. So if a thread bothers a person he just ignores it. What's the point complaining about it or trying to get it shut down?

Here's a lovely video comparing browsers on the Galaxy Tab!

It gives you a feel for the loading time and general UI performance.

Dolphin looks as if it strikes the best balance, but Opera Mobile is definitely the smoothest experience.

Engadget just posted an editorial. It's Paul Miller wishing that the iPad was available in 7":
http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/26/e...wish-it-could/

Note, this isn't a wish for a Galaxy Tab, as he's a proud Apple owner, but it's interesting to see the desire for 7" and 10" across individuals.

Perhaps Sammy has the right idea releasing a 10" Tab.
