forum abuse ? what a load of crock

so "waiting for PR1.X" wish fulfilment threads are not forum abuse, but this is ?

this thread is informative - and it is appropriately placed in the right subforum, so wtf are you complaining about ?

Thanks Cap, I am seeing this thing everywhere in Europe and Asia. Too bad it doesnt do calls except via hacks (i will call via blue tooth headset if it did) otherwise I think I will get one myself

I own an n900 and a galaxy tab. with the n900(the third one due to warranty) I am very used to it and I like the size feel and freedom of it.
The Galaxy tab I have only owned for two weeks. The size is fantastic for internet browsing, I think it is good but I think I have not found the right apps yet which give me something similar to the n900 but bigger.
switching between them in only weird because of the multi touch on galaxy and no swype on n900, so far I have not found a message application which handles all my sms, facebook, skype etc like the n900.
I am carrying not only my n900 but also my galaxy tab.
This is a very individual, not stuctured emotional impression, after 2 weeks of owning both devices. More to come

Thanks for the kudos! I've been getting good feedback on this thread and people seem to like it. Though it is centered around the Tab, I think people like that they are free to talk about pros and cons of various devices without the fanboyish trolling that is found so many other places. Whether you like the Tab or not, prefer meego or prefer iOS you won't find judgement here!

On another note, I was under the impression that the Euro Tab did phone calls. Is this not the case in Asia? It is a bit of a drag, but it seems that the hardware is still in tact. The US version of the Tab can have a Euro ROM loaded onto it to 'enable' the calling feature. Perhaps the same is possible with versions in your area. That said, I feel your pain: these things are always better if they're out-of-the-box.

Personally, I use VoIP due to its ubiquity and cost. So while I need calling features on the device, I can always use Sipdroid or some other SIP software to accomplish this task! I'm really hoping that it works well via 3G. Because VoIP routing is time sensitive, bandwidth isn't the only concern; latency and 'jitter' also factor into call quality!

I've heard that the N900 messaging is unmatched! I've not heard an Android app that even remotely does the same thing, so I can understand the want for this feature.

What else do you miss?

Also, I hear that the Android Market needs some serious work, as it's not presented very well.
This is why I eagerly wait for what Amazon will announce in the app store space. At the moment all app stores (Apple's App Store, Ovi Store, Android Market etc) are bad at discovering good stuff, and figuring out whether an application actually fits your needs.

Amazon has loots of experience in running a bookstore. You always find the interesting stuff there. Think if the same experience could apply to finding applications?

Really? I was under the impression that the Apple AppStore was quite a good shopping experience.

But I'll agree that Amazon.com really 'gets it' when it comes to shopping. It's generally the first place that I go when searching for something new. They have a vast selection, and seem to have a good search algorithm in that searches turn up highly relevant products. Though they've never really been known for their user interfaces .

A really simple thing that they implement (and I LOVE) is the user reviews. Of course they're not the only ones that do this, but it is a highly effective system with such a large userbase. While they have the star rating system, you get to actually read first-hand testimony on the products that you're considering, which can uncover flaws before you buy.

Another thing that I like is that the page layouts are not rigid in structure. In other words, if you're looking up a Galaxy Tab you'll get a different layout than a Rolex watch. I think this is a good thing as it helps communicate better that something that follows a standard layout (even if it looks uglier).

I'm curious to see how this translates to the Android space. I can see a lot of developers selling their wares on Amazon's store, and I can see myself going there to find said wares.

In the meantime, the Tab has a Samsung appstore with several interesting things, which seem to depend on the world area. I found some Italian newspapers which allow to download a number of complimentary issues, a kitchen recipes database (it's also a time-limited offer), and magazines and books stores.

Mainly, it's a way to encourage to buy things... not my own piece of cake because I know where to get my news and books feed for free.

Are you referring to the book interface that sells newspapers, books and magazines? That looks like a bang up feature, that I'm sure I will spend money on.

How do you find the reading experience on the Tab?

One of the things that I know I will use it for is recipes in the kitchen. I *may* do the recipe book thing if they offer nice layouts and colourful pictures. Otherwise, I'm quite happy using the web to find things. But the convenience of being able to look up (and at) recipes is huge. I use my N810, though it's quite small and slow for this sort of thing, my laptop works, but is very cumbersome. The Tabs size seems perfect, as it will often be moved about.

Yes, the magazines app and the book app that you can install from the samsung app go into the readers' hub. Reading is pleasant, the screen is large enough and well lit.
Like with Ipads and Iphones, though, everything seems aimed to make you spend your money :/

Let me ask you a question: how do you feel about the 7" after having spent much time with it. Would you do 7" again, or would you choose a larger screen size?

One more question: Which area(s) does the Tab experience let you down?
