@Javier : can you provide more info? Saying "don't work" is not going to help us helping you so please send more info about the log.

Where do you get the error ? Installation (send the log file) - did you get the error after installing ? Did you install one version over the beta5?

We will try to help you

Marcelo

@spice3d

Comments:
1. I got the same "unable to install" msg even after running the clean-up script. Had to manually install via xterm.

> Some users still have this, maybe due to some "odd" repositories that breaks the dependency chain. We cannot fix this, and users that adds more repositories without knowing if they are going to "influence" the official ones, will need to deal with the consequences For our testing we use 4 cases (clean install, clean install with beta5, used (some repositories + canola5)) then we install several times. If it fails, we fix before release it :/

2. After running the album cover app, a few albums always default to the same (wrong) cover. I have to manually select the correct one.
> this is the search result. We cannot of any means guarantee the accuracy of this blame amazon but that why we did the manual selection.

3. It would be nice if the Album view also showed the album cover on the left.
> Yeah, this is a request we have since beta1. I think we will do it in the near future.

4. The Artist view could also show a thumbnail of the first album. Also, when you tap into an Artist, the album art should appear next to album.

> yeah, this was planned also, but no time do it currently.

5. Seems odd that the 2nd row of the Album Covers view starts at the end of the 1st row. Seems like it should be up-down then left-right (hope that makes sense)

> This has been discussed (I think related to quiver) we have some reasons to that, and we knew people would be "pissed" unfortunately for now is staying like this. Maybe we can add the "sort" but only if we manage to get a clean solution that work for all our cases.

6. No problems for me with scrolling. Seems same as v5.

> nice to hear.

7. Be nice you could manually add album art or perhaps it should--as a last resort--use first jpg in the same folder as songs.

> this is the last missing feature: pick from file. The problem we are facing is : are you guys going to be satisfied if the browse folders component doesn show thumbnails?

(today it does : search for embedded, search for jpg and then download from internet)

8. If you tap Now Playing icon in upper right, hitting the return icon in bottom left should take you to previous screen.

> We are not a web browser. (when everthing is implemented on switcher it will other history)

9. I must not be using the Podcast feature right. Shouldn't it always remember the last position where I left off? After I exit, play a different song, etc. Doesn't seem to work that way.

> Yeah, it was supposed to be doing that. Kenneth has it working on his machine but for some reason his patch didn made into the final build. So it confirmed for the next release. It seems that is working only for video. But it will be there.

All that said, I have to say I LOVE the app! I was very close to getting a Touch and this totally scratched that itch. Good work.

> WoW, this is the best payment we can get (of course I also do like the constructive feedback)

So, thanks for using canola, thanks for your precious time writing back to us, and let see how much can we improve for beta7 lot of work to do. And We are not "satisfied" we really know that we have a lot of ground to improve on.

Best Regards from Sunny (too much) Recife!

Next week, we will be "off" on ( www.bossaconference.org ) talking to our buddies : Rasterman, J5, Zack Rusin, Marcel all things that in the end we use in canola (of course they are not here because of canola) we just want to learn even more how to improve Evas, Dbus, 3D graphics, Bluetooth (a2dp with great performance is already on our labs) and so on

See you in a couple of days (kidding, I will be checking here everyday as almost always )

Marcelo

I truly enjoy using Canola and it has just gotten better with each iteration.

One thing that would make my enjoyment of Canola even better is if there was an easier way to retain podcast settings across installations. I had to run Canola Cleanup because v6 had a broken installation the first try. Of course this meant that all of the podcast URLs that I had entered were lost.

I wish there was a way to back-up the podcast/photocast feed settings so that I wouldn't have to re-enter them each time there is an update to Canola.

Thanks,
Slip

> Yeah we wanted to do that, but the enconding decoding thing was using too much cpu, so we decided to optimize it. We had a 70% opmization on it made by other team members here in INDT (we have a team that works with BlueZ for a couple years) and seems that people are very happy with the optimizations. I think it will be on the next firmware already this new version, then a2dp will be possible without bringing the UI down on heavy task like scrolling.

@slip :
There's is, we have been talking here since beta4 to beta5 : you can use the default backup system just go there, backup the thing and restore after the install. we are using the default maemo backup, not a custom tool.

@Oppositte : Yeah, really glad that you like it. I started requesting Miguel to do the Woo box theme, but he proposed to do a more simple theme, and I just dig it and let him finish. I'm also quite satisfied with the results, because it DOES improve the feedback to the user

PAUSE still often doesn't work.

I've had this problem in betas 3, 5, and 6 (those are all I've tried). I've had it both before and after a clean install of everything (including flashing OS2008).

If this matters, my movies are coded as avi's.

It happens once the movie is far along (say, 1 hour). I can recreate the problem by fast-forwarding to late in the movie and then pausing.

Also, I think there should be a Stop button (which returns you to the beginning of the movie), especially now that you have that nice resume feature.

Thanks for telling me. I think I skipped the beta4-to-5 transition (it was already so good, I probably didn't feel I needed to upgrade!).

(I answered my own question below, but will include it here in case it is useful to others)

When I do the backup/restore, which heading will the Canola settings be stored under? (e.g. Settings, Bookmarks, Media Files...)

-It is stored under "Settings"
