Did I join TMO before you did?
Relax, Dave, it wasn't meant as an attack, purely an observation

You must've, as you attacked me by suggesting I always post off-topic & that I'm a "newbie".*
But, lets not digress further, any interesting news or info?

*although the latter seems to be more of a joke

I have something important to say: The Release Is imminent But what kind of browser are they using:

The question is how is jolla browser working.

I did a basic test on 10 different tv/newspaper content in my browsers.

iOS: worked with 10/10
Android: worked with 6/10
Nokia N9: worked 1/10
Explorer: I didn't bother starting up my windows phones.

Will jolla go with a broswer simular to n9 we are in trouble.

Dave, it's old news. Jolla's browser is IPCLiteAPI based which runs on Gecko engine. So you could try with Firefox OS what runs and what not. Or even better with MeeFox on N9, but it's a bit outdated.

Damn it. Don't have ff phone at my disposal any longer. Yes, using ff for some pages when using n9. But my basic test was more about default browsers. I will try to get my hands on ff phone tomorrow.

So it will work as ff phone browser?

From a technical point of view gecko is a very solid engine. It has far fewer bugs for a web developer to work-around, and operates as expected even in complex html/css layouts, and edge cases.

Also it is not slow, as some like to say. The amount of trickery chrome pulls to appear faster (preloading google search results, firing events before their time etc.) is amazing.

You could argue that it doesn't matter if they are tricks, but the next time your data plan will be drained faster because of that it will matter. And they do make the web developer's life harder. Webkit is the new IE, and if you don't believe me ask jQuery developers. (http://blog.methvin.com/2013/02/trag...t-commons.html)

PS: it's even worse than oldIE as in the latter case, you actually knew exactly what was broken, with old webkit versions all over the place you never know where your app will fail.

I can't really argue against that. Technical solutions are interesting and important. But for a successful phone vendor its secondary to usability and easy to use.(no need to tweak browser or download another browser)

It depends on what useragent Jolla will use. You can try MeeFox and override it there to try out. There is even FF OS as useragent in there already.
