Had a play with it today...
*Its like a big slab of acryllic as someone said
*Decent build quality
*''Hardware buttons'' are flush with the screen
*Its heavy to hold and looks stupid next to your ear... think of a bigger version of the TG01
*I found the system OS unresponsive and sluggish... unlike the iphone
*The keyboard didn't vibrate but maybe it wasn't enabled. Decent typing speeds. One error or so per two lines.

Overall: It didn't scream ''Buy me'' although I probably will at some point. I doubt it will even overtake sales of the Palm Pre despite its budget price due to its size.

That is not good.

I didn’t get to be that detailed in my inspection. Basically I will probably only get it when Froyo is available and I assume that by then it will be fully optimised. In fact I insist on it being optimised, the beauty of the iPhone experience is Apple has optimised the crap out of it and I will never accept anything less than that in future. Even if it means staying with Apple. It really is that important.

So I am counting on Dell coming through here.

More videos with a Dell executive demonstrating and talking about the concept and intended use scenarios. Interesting to see it confirmed that Dell deliberately pushed the screen size to the pocketable limit.

While the new iPhone 4 is breathtaking, this is where my interest lies.

I want to see what difference the pixel count really makes when viewing webpages, Remote Desktop and reading ebook's. I have good eyesight but I don't want to scroll or pan. Thats a big factor in screen size for me!

It's a personal preference, but personally I prefer screens that doesn't have fingers in front of them. It does awful things to brightness and contrast.

Also, smudge marks, ewwww. If anything, I'd make the N900 less finger friendly.

I am not a fanboy for any marque, I will buy the best hardware specified and software supported device available that suits my purposes and requirements - irrespective of who makes it.

No I am not at all happy with the Apple restrictive locked down mindset though Jailbreak goes a long way in dealing with that.

There are some side by side photos of the iPhone 4 and the 3G which shows the differences very clearly. Watch the video here at the segment where the same web page text is compared. The difference is significant.

Again Apple has set the bar and defined the optimum pixel density of 326 pixel per inch resolution. The iPhone 3GS is 163 ppi.

Likewise I want to see that ppi in the display of any future device that I buy. The trouble is that pixel density is not always included in a Spec Sheet so it is hard to get that information. By declaring it openly as a badge of pride Apple has done us all a favour again. Other manufactuers will be pressured into doing the same and will have to meet the standard if they fall short.

One reason why I want a large 5" screen is so text will be easier to read by being bigger. But high pixel density achieves that same readability result on a smaller screen.

So now i want both, a 5" screen and high ppi.

well the iphone was 320 or something, so yes there will be a big difference. compare it to the n900 or some of the high end ones from htc and the difference will not be that great.

who says that's the optimum pixel density? n900 is 266 anyway.. iphone always had a very low res screen

Actually that is the best arguement that I have seen for having a physical keyboard.

Also, smudge marks, ewwww.
I agree, when I saw my first iPhone, a friends 3G last year, I was horrified by the state of the oily smudge marks on the screen. I was prepared for the same when I got a 3GS a few weeks later.

But that doesn't seem to be an issue anymore. Apple now use an oleophobic layer which does a very effective job.
