Simply put, that isn't an answer to the question of how Nokia has indeed abandoned this device. I mean sure PR1.2 is a good improvement but even after this huge improvement that we are so thankful for, you don't get what you would from a 500 euro device!

The phone itself is solid. Its just the software that has received little attention. As someone mentioned it on one of the threads around here, N900 is like Nokia's bastard phone.
putting aside the cost I dont wanna sounds like a fanboy but IMO if i had choice i would buy N900 again software is not great indeed but browser, video support, fast CPU and overall freedom that it gives are just incomparable to any device out there

You should be making your purchase decisions basing on the features the device has already, not on the probable features it might eventually get in the unforeseeable future.

This way you won't be disappointed waiting for things that may or may not happen.

True.

Promises can be broken, minds can be changed so purchase for what you can do now and hope for the best later. By all means, you should be satisfied BEFORE purchasing any device and all else is extra.

I purchased the N900 because of what it could do, not because of what it MIGHT do.

Got my money worth already....

That's rather unfair what you are saying... I understand what you mean by that sentence; that we should be buying the phone based on what it can do that way we will not be disappointed. But don't we have a right to be upset if we are promised something and this promise is never delivered on?

It's been about half a year since the launch of N900 and only a week or so ago they got gmail to work, still no ovi store that was promised. plus some other things that I'm kinda tired about ranting about. Yeah yeah, there was this problem and that problem, but at the end of the day as a consumer, I don't care what problems they have. I care that I paid over 500€ for a device, they promised me features and they did not deliver.

It's kind of a bad example, but say someone promises to build and upkeep a website for you and you pay this person. Yeah, he'll get it done, but just didn't say when, didn't say how it would look, is not doing the normal needed update cos this person said upkeep but did not mention how often. Links might be broken and they will be fixed eventually, you just have to wait for it even though you've paid the person already. Are you starting to understand the frustration?

Something must be happening - they are announcing apps!
Now - if only they would do something with the store!

In N900 case it's even worse. Nokia has a policy of keeping promises to minimum.
So these were (and are) mostly hopes, expectations and wishful thinking. People got so excited, that reality check is gone. This leads straight to frustration and disappointment.

Unfair? What's fairness got to do with this?

I'm sorry that reality bites.

Actually, fairness has quite a bit to do with it.

It's only fair that they keep up their part of the deal, after consumers fork out 500€ to buy their product.

It's not fair, that they ask us to pay 500€ for a product that they promised would get certain features, and these features are not being delivered.

Yes, life is not fair and reality does bite... But doesn't mean that we should sit back and throw our hands up!

Edit: And by unfair, I mean your sentence that we should buy products that already have features implemented in them when we buy them. That is simply not true, because if we are promised x, y and z features in the future, and we are buying a product based on this knowledge.

You can't sell something to a consumer, promise heaven and sky and then not do it just because you suddenly changed your mind. Again, it's unfair to the person who gave you money thinking that you were going to deliver!

Again, another example (a bit more extreme); you buy a car and you are promised that in the future they will activate the onscreen gps in your car. Suddenly they change their mind, or it's taking them forever. Would you still tell this person that he should've bought the car on what it can do, and not was promised it can do?

I don't get how it's so hard for some people to understand that it's practically the same thing with this device!

I really don't know why Nokia is giving out so less information :/
I've always been so happy with their support and software the whole years...
