Kinda offtopic but:

Maybe you are right that the webkit is new IE and Geecko is better. But asking jQuery devs about it is kinda ironic. Because Javascript, over all, is PITA.

Thats why I don't beleive when people says "all apps will be HTML5 and it will work everywhere", yeah right.....

And even Google/Other significant players have abandoned it...
I must dig-up a good article later which outlines most of Google's rationale.
(although no doubt you're probably aware of much of it)

Why Google dropped WebKit...

Developers who use the user agent string should be sho... well, ehm... should undergo educational correction. Unfortunately the average developer is just that: average. And judging by the quality of many websites, that's not something to be proud of.

But ironically, the arrival (or return) of internet explorer in Windows Phone might help the situation. It is a different engine which, from what I understand, does a remarkable job in standards compliance. Also, Google has forked webkit. So now we have three more or less different engines, which are all quite capable of handling the standards. It might push developers in developing for standards, instead of focusing only on a single engine.

But old habits die hard. Point in case: flash video. Every browser today supports HTML5 video. It really isn't that hard to use it, and to provide truly cross platform videos on desktop and mobile. I've done it myself, and it works even on the default browser on the N9. Still, even new sites use flash-based crap for their videos.

Yep, all must move to html5 yesterday instead of exclusive support for a few. I'm so pissed that I have to use iPad just to be able to see some content on a few sites and android flash for others. Add DRM **** to this browser issue too. Lots of DRM content don't work in mobile browser. Unacceptable!

But there is also a responseblity from vendor side to make sure its working better than today.

Link to "My Orders" page seem to have returned to jolla.com.
Direct link: https://join.jolla.com/en/session/new
Nothing seems to be changed though so it seems the removal was a mistake and was now fixed.

I don't know if adapting user-agent and fooling the web developer is the right thing to do but here you are

Please Dave, cut down a bit on your sig. Makes it hard to find your tiny post in all that mess ... Isn't there some forum rules for how big the sig can be? If not there should be.

BTW, Mozilla has an interesting experiment in progress: Shumway http://mozilla.github.io/shumway/
To quote the description from project homepage:
Shumway is an HTML5 technology experiment that explores building a faithful and efficient renderer for the SWF file format without native code assistance.

Because It was one of the most epic campaigns ever. It's was just not for the canonical it was also fun and great participation by end users via community. The campaign is over but my dream of someone taking an idea and trying to push the limits of what you expect from a product still lives in Ubuntu Edge.
