By law he has a fiduciary duty with the company HE works for, that being Nokia if something happens to Nokia HE can get a nasty lawsuit from the shareholders as he is not protected by the corporate veil.
He is making a very bold move and if his bet pays off (which has a better gain rate than android) he is going to put Nokia in the center of the map.

I wasn't talking about the N900. I was talking about a properly released MeeGo device. It's not an officially supported device by Nokia for MeeGo despite being the baseline spec and hardware target for MeeGo.

When it works, yes. It just didn't happen.
If you're going to speculate, a winning recipe is to add at least some reality (pretty hard for accountants).

Having something sexy to sell to the people who buy things, people who just want something that they can use to do all the things that people do with iPhones, iPads and Android devices. It isn't rocket science. for example ios has got relatively fast boat but its speed is limited. android has been very slow until recent hyperspeed, and symbians boat has been slowly getting slower and slower.
the problem with your logics is that it is really short-sighted. what you said applies for now but what about 2016? no os can be market leader for infinite time.
e: with your logic ios android would have been doomed attempts in 2008...

A little bit of digging before engaging in wild speculation will reveal that due to regulatory issues he wasn't allowed to divest himself of MS shares and acquire Nokia shares. You don't need to know all of the regulations to know that there would be problems if he engaged in large Nokia stock transactions right before announcing a new corporate strategy, significant layoffs, etc. or engaged in MS stock transactions right before signing a deal with them. That would be insider trading. It's not damage control, its regulatory control.

Bollocks. If it could have, it would have provided something that we could use on the n900. It didn't, it won't, and it can't.
And yes, I keep hearing that I don't understand what MeeGo is. Obviously neither does anybody else who isn't working on it. All I know is it doesn't do anything useful. Every time a manager hears "but you don't understand how it works" when faced with something expensive that does nothing, they tend to think - so why bother with it?
I don't understand psychopaths either - doesn't mean I give them the benefit of the doubt and let them carry on doing what makes sense to them.

Why argue about it. It would be nice if it were otherwise. It would be nice if we could continue to indulge in our fantasies about what could/should be - but Android did, and Maemo/MeeGo didn't.
