92,000 units? Yeah right.. just some more clever marketing going on there.. creates a panic.. "oh no, i must go out and part with 500+ before someone else gets there first..

They sell 92,000 units in the first week or two... then they make more.....

The majority of people buying the iPhone probably only ever use it for music, a few apps and phone calls/texts.... if Nokia can tap into that casual market with a sought after device they'll be onto a winner.

All it needs is a few media stories of some eejits getting worked up into a big enough frenzy to que up for it when it's released........... how many views has this thread had now?

Eldar made that 92 000 comment.
If Eldar is part of Nokia's marketing they certainly are playing a game way over my head.

Imo the question is not "what we want" maemo and linux users at least for the first step. As already said linux and xterminal phone is a niche wiches not making lot of money and its marketting will not give mass people enthusiastic.
The big challenge for the first meego public device launch is to make a maximum of people thinking "WOAW I want one now !!!"

(you know, like a famous phone very closed source ^^) sorry for bad english

Then like Koajwujwer123 said if that's true, the good deal could be the one he describe (of course for a first step !) any teaser yet ? lol :

Can't get into specifics but it will be better than the hardware on the dev phone. Everything is nice and smooth.
It is a very slim device. That is another aspect that people look at and this should appeal to them.

to be honest, i just hope it can match the latest phones on the market.

samsuny galaxy s 2 for example.

1.2ghz dual core, 1 gb ram, 12mp cam, 4 inch amoled screen, 1080 video record and output via hdmi.

If nokia put out a n series phone with specs like that, and it was a hybrid between the n8 and n900 they would sell them by the bucket load. kb or kb-less. candybar for the people who are apple lovers but dont want to move to the dark side and kb for those who love the n series range for what it is. huge wins for nokia.

i really hope this will be a good nokia product. otherwise its the ga.axy s2, htc sensation or atrix for me. And i wont look back!!

i do love my n900 though, how unique and kingy!!!

Continual support of Nokia if you are not happy with its products is just silly.

If you want to support FOSS and Meego then buy Meego phones from other companies - i.e. LG releasing some phones I believe.

Of course if the hardware is good enough for you then just get this phone, but dont expect people to "forget" how we were treated.

And Yes I believe all Nokia bashing is fully justified - their past behavior is indefensible, and as a consumer the only power you have to reprimand them is NOT to buy their products.
First of:

I am VERY happy with my N900 :-D

I am also a "realist" some people here is not! They complain about Nokia and saying Android is SOOO goood. And thats just garbage cause I have seen several people on forums and also in real world that is not positive about how HTC/Samsung/SE is not upgrading to latest Android and so on.

Conclusion: There is NO company that has longterm support for devices. We have to be glad there is a year upgrade of OS. If you want longterm support for a device you have to PAY for the upgrades. Thats how bussines work.

We (including myself) can bashing as much as we want about "open source" but NO company will ever release a fully working open source mobile EVER. Not even Linux on desktop is working without closed components. The closed components like drivers for GFX, Wifi and then software/protocols/codecs like : DRM, Mp3, AAC, Hxxx, skype, adobeflash, all of them may suck hell :-( but still they are needed without them it just halfbacked joke.

And about LG. Give me a break!? There is no company atm that is close to what Nokia has today on the "Meego front"!

It may be true that nXX is not fully Meego compliant. But still it is WAY more close to Meego than what LG will give (what have they contributed to the community so far?) us at the Meego conference. I wouldnt mind if i was wrong but
again I am a realist dont expect that much from LG. As far as I know they have only said they will release some kind of "prototype" (probadly same prototyp as we saw one years ago).

But some people here still thinks they will release a device cmon?

People here have too read the sources instead of reading some rumors from stupid mobilesites who hasn't a clue what they are talking about.

SGS2 has 8MP camera...

Anyways, all I want is a powerful internet/multimedia/productivity device.
N900 used to tick all the boxes. Now it's weak in multimedia. (no HD)
So I was hoping N9 will be a faster, bigger, slimmer version of N900.
But I guess what we will get is something not targetted towared "us".

... at least Samsung isn't putting edof cameras to it's phones like Nokia does nowadays.
C'mon this is silly just hating brands. I don't think there's absolutely nothing wrong at all expecting Nokia to deliver hw wise as good or better phone than others. I'am, while other than camera i'm not too optimistic about it.

GS wasn't for me because google account focked the whole phone for me and was generally just buggy(especially browser), though custom ROM made the phone ok. So now i'm using iphone 4+N900 combo.
As far as OS goes harmattan the little we have seen is really looking just what i want it to be, but even with harmattan inside i wont pay for inferior hw. It's then anybodies business what you value or need from the hw.

For example if there would have been MeeGo tablet available from Nokia this year i would have certainly picked it up, but that is long gone and now i'm just waiting for my Asus transformer+dock to arrive.
