<rant>Guys,

I am becoming increasingly weary of the feature creep plagueing this project. It started as "N900 with a better CPU and more memory". That's what the poll is about. The list has later grown to what is currently on the Neo900 website. But now we are talking about DVI, HDMI and a DVB-T tuner. How did that come about? Where will it end? I fear that never-ending talks on "can you add this, can you add that" will delay the project indefinitely. Some new features will come "free of charge", so to speak (dual touch comes to mind) and that is fair enough, but I think we need to learn to let go and stop bolting on ever more features lest we create a chimera that will never actually see the light of day.

Just my £0.02.</rant>

That was totally uncalled for. Jörg's posts were absolutely civil. He answered all questions. Wherever possible, he came forward and suggetsed solutions. Wherever not possible, he explained why. I can't speak for him but if I could, I would say good job you are not buying. You would make a real nightmare customer.
He was not civil and i explained that in a message he deleted among a lot of other messages he deleted. The only message he left was the one he answered...

-Everyday i earn enough money to buy one new Neo900 ... do you really think it is worth it for me to argue about small problems?

The messages weren't deleted - they were just separated to another thread to make this one cleaner. See: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=92373

It already happened several times and actually I think it should happen more often, as it's already very hard to follow this thread.

Personally I hope for separate Neo900 subforum which would make all those threads much easier to handle...

PS. If you can, please continue this topic in that thread to avoid the need for another separation :P

Joerg_rw is not the moderator here...HE moved nothing...the moderator moves or trashes posts that have little relevance to the topic to keep a post lean informative and helpful...

Thanks for this post. It did a great job to make things obvious. Particularly considering the fact that I CANNOT delete posts in here, I'm a mere mortal tmo user like everybody else, particularly I'm no moderator of tmo. I have to say I somewhat sympathize with what pichlo said about nightmare customers. Anyway I really got better things to do than to argue on that level.

Don't worry, talk is not delaying work. And Nikolaus is already enough of a warranty that no unreasonable difficult and possibly delay-causing stuff will make it to Neo900 design. And I'm not considering to delay work to implement new features either.
Actually it's been me who started the discussion about DVI/HDMI here, and the SDR stuff been on an age old list of things I've been thinking about already and thus xes' request didn't come by surprise.
We neither will delay the project nor will we deliberately increase the cost per device beyond the original goal, no matter what we're discussing here.
Nevertheless thanks for sharing your concerns, duly noted. Seems I need to improve our communication so that such concerns can't come up to start with.

cheers
jOERG

Usually, this would require a very little space and would allow to have onboard a dvb-t tuner and an sdr receiver.

Look here for an example of pcb with these ic:

Eventual rtl2832-gr IC availability:

I'd rather not see features included that can easily be achieved with a USB dongle. To get a good signal for DVB-T I've always had to connect my main roof aerial and IMHO a USB dongle would be the simplest way to achieve this. If there's space left on the board and no one can come up with a better use for it then by all means go for it.

Sorry for even more off topic:
In the forums I was moderating it was considered good practice that EVERY time a mod changes a thread he leaves a note WHO changed the thread (including an info on how to contact him for further questions if that's not obvious), WHAT he did (in this case at least a link to the off-topic thread, better yet one to the exact post) and WHY he did it.

This way the regular user gains a good level of transparency about what happens behind the curtain and misunderstandings like the one recently experienced are very unlikely.

Now that you read that, whoever you are, please move this post to the off-topic thread as well!
If you're about to say you don't have the manpower for this level of transparency, that's pretty easy to fix.
