Hmmmm.... i may just inspect it and be very carefull,

thanks for the info.

EDIT

I would be very interested to see a redone poll on this issue because there are a large number of new cases over the last month or so and those figures will change drastically.
I was one of those who voted 'No so far all has been fine' well that has certainly changed (well it will after i have checked the insides).

@Bazza

interesting.....if yours still fail even at filed down charger and cable, the n900 usb port has almost 100 percent change of getting ripped off or being loose.

i also got the issue of not charging and not being recognized by a pc or laptop as a connected device even though the usb port is still attached but found out that i was so careful in plugging it, too careful that the charger or pc wont recognize it. i got the idea from a thread here in t.m.o, forgot what that thread is.

I'd agree - time for a fresh new poll. I too voted no problems and then subsequently had the USB socket fail. Local Nokia repair shop re-soldered for 25UKP. I must file down the lugs on the plugs !!!

if you're talking about the n900 not being recognized by charger and pc as connected device, then yes, i am always so careful, (paranoia i guess) and maybe 1 of 3 charge/connection to pc this issue occurs. maybe coz i am too slow on plugging and have to reconnect again then it will work on the second attempt.

UPDATE

Had a look inside and found the usb port is very sturdy and looks intact on the board,

It's in a right tricky position and i could'nt see right behind it at the main connections.
I may reflash to see if its software related, if that does'nt sort it then i will have to send it away.

Well, looks like my N900 is going for repair it's finally broken.
Ok so its had a few knocks but the usb socket has always been treated well, so yesterday it had started to play up wouldn't charge so I tried a different charger and the same thing.

So I found it to be the phone socket that was faulty and having moved the charger around got it to charge, so this morning when I got up had a look at it and pulled my charger out and the connector came with it.

So gonna see what Vodafone will do if not it's a call to Nokia but my concern is now it only 9months old what happens when im out of warranty im stuck with a repair bill ? 2 year contract and a broken phone I think manufacturers need to start extending their warranty's .

I am not sure what this means or how long it takes, but seems promising.
I received the same message the same day Nokia US repair center received my phone from UPS. That's pretty fast turn-around so far.

My story is after about 8 months my n900 stopped being charged by the wall charger; only the PC USB connection charged it. I held onto it for about a week and reflashed it just to make sure it wasn't software related and this didn't help, but I also noticed my PC USB connection started getting very sensitive (disconnecting/connecting if I bumped the device) so I sent it in for repair (under warranty) before it totally failed.

Does anyone know if they send out brand new devices in this scenario or are they actually refurbished?
