I think it's better do not post the solution to my problem of 'uninstalling', because It's a 'very particular' solution, working directly on the file of my own N800... Reporting here all the steps will only generate confusion.

Well, I finally got it installed. No idea what the problem was, I ended up using the same files I had downloaded previously, because I couldn't get a good file download. I tried on a Windows PC, a Linux notebook, and the N800, all had the same problems. The first files I downloaded were the proper size, and installed on the fourth try. <shrug> Now that it's working, my initial impression is that it's a dancing bear. The wonder isn't that it dances well, it's that it dances at all. There is a huge amount of time spent watching little icons bounce up and down, as apps s l o w l y load, and then slowly run. I'll play with it awhile and see if I want to keep it. It requires patience, though. Penguinbait, thanks for the work.

In the end, what solved my issue was reflashing and installing KDE before installing all my other apps. This ensured that no other apps were installing bzip in the background.
Next hurdle is getting past the strange font in microB. I can hardly read what I'm typing. Hope this helps some people.

Incidentally, after reinstalling all my apps and configuring them, my fonts in microB switched to what i switched my kde ones to (nokia sans). weird but it sure makes having kde and os2008 more pleasant.
PB, let me know if you want to look over my n800 to see what's different.

*edit* I also noticed anything that still uses monospace fonts, such as code blocks, still use the broken font. Hopefully there is a way in the future to seperate the fonts for kde and maemo completely. Still much better though!

Hi, I successfully installed KDE on N810 mmc2.
I installed through ssh and I had a failure on
echo y | mkfs.ext2 /media/mmc2/local.img
that for an italian ssh installation must be
echo s | mkfs.ext2 /media/mmc2/local.img
I completed the installation process by hand and it worked.
I also have a problem with microb fonts, I set KDE font to Nokia Sans but the font in microb remains allways monotype, no way to change it.

I managed to fix the font issue by deleting with rm -rf /home/user/.font*
after rebooting the fonts are now ok in microb.
