Guys,

Never thought it would happen but Im seriously starting to doubt my purchase. I have been watching this phone since it was announced, I have followed via Engadget and other sources drooling at every pic. I have patiently waited on my pre-order drooling over official and unofficial videos. I have sat at the lunch table watching every colleague around me playing with their iphone, smugly knowing that they had nothing compared to the device that would be arriving on my doorstep shortly.

...but recently, ever since people started recieving there device, there is a sea of negativity flowing in these forums. I have seen hardcore early adopters whimpering in the corner with their broken mic issue and draining batteries.

For me a phone with linux is the ideal gadget. I enjoy nothing more than fannying about getting things working but at the same time as a skint dad my phone is the only gadget i allow myself, and it has to have the wow factor...Im an mpd customer and potentially have another week to go but the question is knawing at me and getting louder and louder...after all this time of waiting...am I making the right choice???

Prob the whisky but thoughts and comments would be much appreciated. Mines is a 24 month contract (never committed to that length before but such was my passion for this device) Are we being blind sighted by what we want to have not to see the flaws of the n900?

Those 2 statements are your answer really.

Broken hardware happens with every phone, you can get it replaced and it is only a small percentage..

The software will have bugs - its bleeding edge, but it has a community behind it, so fixes and functionality will come thick and fast which you won't get elsewhere
I went for a 12 month contract, I reckon if you have doubts, try to change the length of the contract to 18 months..

This is prob my biggest concern as the 18 month contract with my e90 seemed like forever but I have done my research and as long as I get half of what ive been promised 2 years of to quote myself of "fannying about" will be happy ones.

I guess I just wanted to give those dark thoughts in my head a voice but I will stay faithful! look forward to being a part of the community..Bring on next week.

Well, I received mine last week.. I have had 0 problems with the device. I have an iPhone and a BlackBerry storm, this blows them both away without a doubt. I have actually turned off my iPhone and haven't turned it on since I got the N900

I need to be connected constantly, and be able to hop online at any given moment. So far the N900 has removed the need for me to even use my netbook.

One thing I can't get my head round is the number of people that just complain every instance they get which is bringing the mood down and over shadowing the positive experiences which I would say is the vast majority... You have people complaining right from the beginning "they delayed a week, typical nokia screw up", "they rushed it and xyz doesn't work, typical nokia screw up", "my bank rejected the order, typical nokia screw up", "<insert whine here>, typical nokia screw up" etc etc. It seems like nothing they do is to the satisfaction of the moaners and even things that aren't related to them, the blame gets put on them anyway... Take NukNuk for example, he has been posting at every opportunity he gets about his broken mic - we get it already your mic is broken - you're not happy.. no need to post 50 times about the same thing all over the place. If nokia is such a typical screw up then what I don;t understand is why some are so bothered about this device and paying so much for it from a company that in there eyes always screws up.. It's beyond me.. Things break, Nokia isn't the first company to have defective units. Nobody is going to die, the world isn't going to end because you're getting your phone 2 weeks later instead of right now..

For me? The phone is on the verge of perfection. Battery runs out a bit faster than I'm used to, but that's expected when I have the media player, web browser, various IM's etc. all running. It's a full blown computer. I'm just waiting for the battery to be in stock so I can order another one.

Another thing some fail to recognise is the Maemo community. Bugs being fixed rapidly, knowledgeable people ready and available to give assistance - no other phone has such a great community of people. The Maemo is a community driven project, I'm sure that's exactly what Nokia wants. The community to drive forward the innovations, the new features.. it's where the ideas are - the end users.

I haven't owned a Nokia for over 5 years. Tried LG, samsung, sony, motorola, hp, apple, RIM - none of them come close to this and I can comfortably say Nokia now have another follower.. I'll be sure to be waiting in line with each new iteration of this device that they bring out..

/rant.
