My port came out but I had it fixed in two hours. I guess that is the first positive thing that I can report about Lagos, Nigeria; any phone problems can be fixed easily .

Just cost me 10,000 Naira, or $70.00 XD.

I am thinking of buying a second one so I can swap between them when in repair. Does anybody know if problem is resolved in newer n900?

Now it has been two weeks without a written response, not from the seller (mobycity), not from their warranty company, not from their repair centre and absolutely not from Nokia who seems to have my phone now. It should not take that long to evaluate a damage and respond. Makes you wonder............

(Service center is the same place where I left the phone. Nice girl took it away from me and gave me a just service number.

Week and nothing yet happened.. service man not in hurry if charging is broken Last time it took only one day to change broken LCD screen.

Just give me the brand new one!
They read my mind. Service center girl sent me a msg today where she said the work is done and you can now pick up your N900.

Poor bastards didn't give me the new one! Only fixed the usb connector and didn't even change it to new one.

You serious? I went to Nigeria just before I sent mine off to the US for replacement and was deliberating whether to take it with me and see if I could get it fixed. But cause I had tried two places in the UK and both had been unsuccessful despite holding my N900 for 4 days each I decided I had to send it to Nokia. To be fair I think some are more badly damaged than others and cannot be fixed and that may have been the case with mine. Well over a month now and still waiting for Nokia to find me a replacement. What a company.

Just wanted to say that, being across the ocean from the US where I got my N900 - and therefore warranty service would be a major pain, I am so scared of this USB thing happening to me I reduced my use of the port to zero -

I got an extra battery and external charger, so I never have to use my charger (it's actually more convenient once you get used to it).

I transfer files from my PC using tinysmb, and if they're really big I use my 8GB micro sd.

The USB connector is really only for emergency cases - if I ever need to flash the device. Hopefully it will hold for a long time.

I know this does not excuse Nokia for the poor design but hey, I like my N900 and don't feel like parting with it just yet...

I'm sure this has been answered in the thread but I don't want to go looking through 176 pages... The only way to prevent the usb port from breaking is to grind down the little teeth on the cable or charge the battery externally right? Are there any other solutions I missed?

Btw I go my N900 in August. The problem has supposedly been fixed?

I think those are the best things to do (personally I just grind the teeth down). Has anyone's USB port been ripped out even though they ground down their plugs?

I don't think anyone has seen any evidence that the problem has been fixed.

There have been reports of USB ports becoming loose despite grinding the connector teeth.

I sent my N900 to nokiausa in Alabama , but I called them and they said that they do not know when they are gonna get new replacement for me, so I asked them to send me back my n900 since I bought it on amazon.com and I am still in 30day money-back period. Is just terrible how nokia does not have replace right away, after paying so many dollars for device.
