Show me where I was rude to people. You said people rather than person meaning more than one person I was rude to. The only thing I can think of was when I called Jan's instructions rubbish (which I soon after apologised) but emotions aside, my statement is correct. The instructions on page 1 SEVERAL DAYS AGO were incomplete, missing out crucial steps such as not mentioning rootsh. The instructions now are much much better and I think I played a major part of that as most problems I faced have a mention now on page 1 which benefits new comers. There is also the fact that I am new to Linux.
The instructions back then were not simple like you make out to be, so don't make me look like an idiot who can't follow basic instructions. The fact that others also experienced the same problems I had is further proof that the instructions back then were far from simple.
Yes, I saw updates available so I got them. I repair PCs all the time and understand it is usually a good idea to update software and drivers often. I like to be up to date with things, hence why I replaced my n810 with the n900. I can tell you now, if I had todays present instructions complete with warnings, I would never have updated Ruby (which was the cause of my problems and not rootsh like you seem to suggest was)
I've thanked people who have helped me and tried to help 2 other people on here with problems. So I ask... show me where I was rude...

2) The instructions just weren't 'rubbish' at any point. I got it up and running in less than 5 minutes (as you can note on post 29 on this thread) and I'm brand new to Maemo / Linux.
3) You seem to be asking me to show you were you were rude except for that time you were rude which doesn't count.
4) If I'm winding you up ignore me. There's on old saying that you should never argue with an idiot - they'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

The fact is I (yes me) had problems because the instructions were poorly written missing out CRUCIAL information needed to get it working. How was I suppose to know you need rootsh installed? when it was never mentioned. How was I to know that you need to input the commands one at a time rather than paste it in all at once which the original instructions gave the impression that you needed to do that from how they were laid out on. How also was I to know that the latest version of Ruby and the extras-devel conflicts with this? You got it working at an early stage... GOOD FOR YOU but me and others had some heartache on the journey. So tell me, how did you know you needed rootsh installed? when you're new to this and the instructions never mentioned it....
It's because of me and a few others that Jan finally has laid out the instructions clearly and complete enough for most to stand a chance of working. I am very grateful for everyone who spent their time helping me....
Your message implies I have been rude more than once so go ahead and admit you are wrong, be a human and apologise. We all are different in mind, I know if I written those instructions and someone said they were poor/rubbish that I would be grateful for their honesty. Even if I myself took offense to that persons comment, I would not feel bad as the person apologised.

If people still can't get this working, consider downloading the iplayer file from your desktop/laptop computer and then transferring it over via USB cable or wireless. This was what I would have done if Jan and others didn't continue to help me.

Something odd just happened. iplayer was working fine yesterday but today when I tried to download a new video it said iplayer not found. This is odd because i've done nothing new to the phone, no updates or anything. No worries though, it's working again now but I had to remove it and re-add it to get it working.

I get all sorts of stuff when I type "iplayer-dl" in a blank terminal window including help stuff, so I assume it's installed fine.
Now before exiting in 5. above, I noticed the following were installed: -
ruby (1.8.7.72-6 maemo1)
iplayer-dl 0.01
Before doing anything further is this correct please?
Then please describe whether I open a terminal window and type the usual sudo gainroot command before entering the echo syntax and whether you have to precede it with anything or finish it with anything.
I do know what iplayer URL means - I have some url's to insert from the BBC's website regarding programs to view - but I need to know if everything is ready first before proceeding ie;
Are my versions correct?
AND the fact that I type "iplayer" in a blank window and get "iplayer not found" is not a problem.
