Added torrent link. Will try to seed whole day today.
LXDE works quite well with touchscreen. Takes a little practice to hit small buttons though.

hildon-desktop is still in squeeze:
http://packages.debian.org/stable/x11/hildon-desktop

definitely something I will try when I have more time...

EDIT: tried it.. I used xephwm and modified it to run hildon-desktop instead of startlxde1.. looked quite broken.

Why not compress the image with lzma, etc ?

I think lzma is better (yields smaller compressed files) than bzip.

That's the main reason almost all Easy Debian's images use lzma.
