The usb port in my n900 came loose yesterday as I was unplugging the charger. I called Nokia Care and they emailed a shipping label for repair. I think I have everything copied onto a microSD card but I was very disappointed that there is no way to copy contacts database to the SIM card (for use in a spare phone). I hope to ship the phone out soon and will update when I get the repair/replacement.

Very sad to be without the n900 right now!

So I got my phone back exactly a week after I mailed it out. Wednesday to Wednesday. Got a new phone as well, but the major attraction was the short replacement time. Big-ups to Nokia. Just the minor problem of the charging sequence stalling, but then I don't have to do without my phone after a semi-miserable one week.

One more N900 bites the dust.

Have been a bit hard to charge for a couple of weeks, but I have thought it was a problem with the cable.

But the cable snagged a bit when I was about to put down the phone on the table. A very light jank, but just enough for the USB connector to come lose in the phone.

I guess a big problem have been the times I have talked in the phone with charger cable connected, but no handsfree - having the cable come up from the top of the phone means that there is a constant bending force on the connector.

I bought a PowerBase generic Li-Ion battery charger, to allow me to charge the battery, while I try to figure out if I can be without the phone while it's on repair or if I should buy a second N900 or maybe a different phone. It feels a bit strange to give Nokia extra money for a second phone because I need to repair the phone.

It took Nokia 3 and a half weeks to send back my replacement phone (as other could not be repaired) to the Optus store.

I've had this brand new replacement for less than 4 weeks and the SAME thing has happened yet again last night

This is beginning to really frustrate me, simply unplugging and plugging the charger in has caused the same issue.

The metal part of the USB connector has not come out, but its extremely loose and the phone will not charge.

So it looks like another warranty return/replacement/repair yet again.

I swear to god, if this happens AGAIN i will simply return the N900 for another phone, albeit would have to settle for Android phone.

Nokia NEEDS to do something about this issue as clearly it is not a case of misuse of users of the phone, but simply a poor design of the phone and where and how the USB connector is placed.

you have not filed the prongs right?

yeah this is really a design flaw on the USB port......geez.......cause of this issue and a (possible) hassle of dealing with Nokia, i intentionally void my warranty by filing the prongs on chargers/connectors and applying a bond on the port

Hello,
No there is no coverage by the warranty. My USB was broken. I sent back to Nokia and they said that my phone can't be repaired anymore and they gave me the phone back. I am currently using the phone by charging it on a special charger where I put the battery separately.

Be careful guys , Most of the N900 have the same problem with the charger pin and there is no warranty the best think is to have an insurance on it.

I bought mine in late April 2010, it pulled off on 31 October. I sent it for "repair" on 1 Nov; arrived the 5th (Friday), NokiaUSA did a near-immediate turn around on sending a new device (shipped on Tuesday). It arrived on Friday (yesterday).

I've already Dremel-ed the nibs on my USB cables and bought an external charger and second battery.
