Well the master plan has been to cut 1 billion euros by 2013 so like i said even in 2013 with that 1 billion cut Nokia would still have the largest R&D in the business. To me it sounds like Nokia is waisting it's resources big time.

Though NSN moving away would indeed be another thing. It has been said that Nokia and Siemens got contract that both can't sell their shares of the company before 2012 but after that it has been for some time discussed that NSN would be sold. Also half of Nokia's workforce is tied to NSN.
Though Siemens has openly been ready to sell it's NSN shares so it has also been rumored that Nokia would be interested to buy it out from NSN.

A lot.
"Nokia had 123 553 employees at the end of 2009."
I guess it's fewer now, but still a lot.

@Rauha, LOL Jo Harlow! How embarassing!

Actually 131 000 in January 2011. Though should be closer to those 2009 numbers soon.
I think much of the last years Nokia employe growth has come out from the NSN side, example from the Motorola networks buy.

Based on:

http://press.nokia.com/2011/04/27/no...ices-to-nokia/

and

http://press.nokia.com/2011/04/27/no...-new-strategy/

It seems 4000 will lose job with additional 3000 (Denmark, Finland, UK) "moved" to Accenture.

"Marco Stracquadan working for MeeGo development does not see hope for MeeGo in a longer time frame, but still sees that Nokia got some hope left."
Another MeeGo worker interviewed right after the announcement outside of Barona Arena, Finland said that work will end by the end of summer this year.

What I've read in finnish media, of the 4000 cuts 1400 will be in Finland and 1000 in Denmark. There was also a list that had the new focuses for Nokia research centers. It didn't mention Meego at all...

Those temp jobs at Accenture will be located in India, UK, China, Finland and USA.

Just in case anyone is interested, Elop interview about todays news and Microsoft collaboration tonight on YLE1. Streamed live on http://areena.yle.fi/live at 21.40 tonight (20.40 CET 19.40 UK). I assume it's going to be in english, since Elop doesn't talk finnish, and the stream is marked on YLE site as availeable globally.

I spoke to a couple of really frustrated Nokia employees. It seems that they are not going to get fired at the moment, not even that they are working with MeeGo development.

However, their sentiment was that they actually hope that whole Nokia gets destroyed because of the WP7 strategy, even if it eventually would cost their own jobs. They feel that they never really got a change to prove what they can do.

They hope that MeeGo succeeds in the hand of some other manufacturer.

Leaked memo on The Register http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/04...kia_cuts_memo/

"The long-term successor to Symbian Meego also faces an early death. Nokia now tells staff that the majority of MeeGo activities are planned to be discontinued by the end of June 2012, adding: "The Windows Phone organization has started to ramp up its operations and a large part of that organization will be in place by the end of 2011, and Nokia aims to retain as many people as possible from other areas, such as the Symbian and MeeGo organizations.

"There will also be opportunities within the Meltemi organization, for personnel working within the MeeGo teams."

I spoke today with a Nokian who's job is on the line for the 5th time in last two years. He didn't really seem to care that much if he finally loses it on the fifth go.

I'm becoming less and less interested in what happens to Nokia. I mean, who cares anymore, unless they bought stock. It's just another octopus, and an anemic one at that.
