All the compass, gyroscope etc hardware is pure win for Apple. Why Nokia didn't include a compass is still a mystery to me. Talk about obvious requirements.

Mostly, I'm curious about the vidcall capabilities. They have actually beaten me to the punch, as I'm working on a nicer Qt interface that uses both cameras. However, I intend my vidcall client to be open-standard compliant, not "iPhone-to-iPhone"...which is lamer than a smoking monkey.
Same thing I was thinking! Great points. I don't wont a phone screen bigger than 3.8! And I too wondered the lack of compass which was a fail on Nokia part if you ask me. Oh the apps that could have came from having the compass. And finally iphone to iphone video call only strange but even stranger is its WIFI only??? Whats up with that.

Its data intensive on the networks.

iphone to iphone video call only
Again it adds to its exclusivity. Good on them if they can pull it off.

If you were to really think of it that way... that's a bad look for Nokia. The iPhone 4 being 4th gen and the N900 was step 4 out of 5.

That's... actually sorta depressing because Apple's 4th gen will be supported for at least 3 iterations of the OS - Apple has stated so - and Nokia cannot support one iteration of their OS.

Its not about your signal quality. Its megabytes used over the 3g network. Bandwidth.

Iphone users already overload much of the data stream of all mobile web usage. This would kill it for no monetary gain.

It was pretty good and I used it a bit but many times you didn't want people to know where you were (people will force you to use it if they know you have it)!! And then they charged extra for the service and I didn't really miss it.
It's still the case with o2 that video and voice calls are interchangeable.. http://www.o2.co.uk/support/generalh...i/videocalling

Its actually no surprise, since it gives everyone a reason to get their phone! Ohmygosh! A company is actually trying to increase it marketshare?? Don't other companies drive away their customers en masse like Nokia does?

If you look at it from a broader view, its basically THE perfect answer to RIM's Blackberry-to-Blackberry-only Ping service, since that Ping service is practically the ONLY REASON why people even buy BB's here in the Netherlands and alot of other places

I had a suspicion you'd chew someone out for taking a stance like that. Good job on setting up that straw man, it sure was hard to knock down.

Oh oh, right.

Freedom = Slavery

I think that sums up your statement.

True but i'm just saying mines work fine on another US gsm carrier. But I get your point but I enjoy being able to video call anybody if they device or machine can handle it.

It looks better than the 3GS but still lacks some hardware and the configurability of the n900. So it's a waited no-go. Pretty pale to be Apple too. Was waiting something much better.
