i'd already voted for "no problems so far" in the poll, well a few weeks ago the port fell out. took it to vodafone who sent it to nokia, 2weeks later new handset (kept the batt and cover from old one though) wish it was as straightforward for the rest of you guys. 2 weeks without my n900 was a killer but i'd hate to have all the hassle some of u have with it. must say trying to track it through vodafone was awful. they genuinely have no idea where your phone is when you want to know. even told me to go pick it up when it wasn't there.

Hi Festivalnut.

In hindsight, I too should have taken it to vodafone as opposed to doing a merry dance with the Carphonewarehouse. Still they have said they sent it to Nokia and its come back BER! So am not holding out for Customer Support to do much if Nokia repairs have said BEP.

Its v annoying :-(

i'm sure if you push you will get it replaced, being beyond economical repair would have been the status of mine for it to have been replaced with a new unit. if you have used it according to the manual (how wrong can you go with a charger?) and its suffered a hardware failure then by law its manufacturing defect as far as i'm aware and definately covered by warranty. then again if it looks like the dogs been chewing on it when you hand it in...

well.. 2 things u can do when got a replacement set.. 1, grind the hook at charger and usb cable.. another 1 maybe void ur warranty, take the back casing off.. put a rubber on top of the micro usb connector, then put back the back casing. (then 2nd not suggested if u dont want to void ur warranty) just my 2 cent

yes its possible. we have 4 ways to fix it.

1 making strong soldering in the lateral parts of the usb (adding more soldering)

2 using some glue

3 making one more soldering (see the pictures that someone posted here in the back pages)

4 changing the motherboard... but the problem will not resolve

Big question though, Santiago: has anyone successfully done any or all of the first 3--which we geeks should be able to do on our own, of course--and then, if it were sent in to Nokia for something else under warranty, they wouldn't notice? This is the primary reason I haven't done anything like this to mine yet.

I think the vast majority of usb ports breaking off cases have been BER, as most people who got it "fixed" were actually given a new device, or new motherboard.
