Nokia has to keep the opensource+developer crowd within a sandbox (while trying to tap into opensource development potential) without tainting their existing commercial consumers. This I think is the primary reason why the NIT hasn't been given cell capabilities.

Now that apple has shown an enormous potential of their itunes-backed app repository business model, there's no way Nokia is going forward with maemo as is.

Hi Phonelink is based on gnokii and so far gnokii doesn't support S60 3rd gen phone : so N70 should be OK but unfortunately N95 won't work for now.

Fred
PS : You have to install a gnapplet.sys on your S60 <3rd gen phone to make gnokii work
PS2 : check out and feel free to complete the wiki page
PS3 : if you have any question about phonelink ask me (there is an even easier to configure version cooming out soon)

Phonelink will let you dial or SMS with your phone; it does not provide HFP for audio routing and call answering.

SelFone is a project that was started in that direction, but as I understand did not get far.

That's quite an opinion, that is. Of course, the only way in which potential has been shown is by Apple generating huge enthusiasm with their SDK; we don't see any sales figures of apps. Anything Apple does shows "enormous potential that way", and there's not much chance of Nokia doing it, because Nokia doesn't get people excited. I think they're smart enough to realize this and discount non-reproducible hype in their business-model analyses.

Hmm ... this seems a step closer to my n810 :P now it's just the money (though it seems surprisingly cheap looking at the things it offers)

Thx
