You can change the user agent by about:config and then search for 'useragent'.
Skatebiker,

I'm an 810 newbie who wants to use the MSN Mobile site for my hotmail. The issues I've had are those discussed in this thread. Works well on my phone, the right page won't show on my 810. It sounds like you might be on to the solution -- where is the about:config? Do I fire up X Term and type in "about:config". (I'm new to Linux, too, obviously). If so, do you know what I'd need to do with 'useragent' if I found it?

You'd type "about:config" (without the quotation marks) in the URL entry area of your N810's default web browser, not in X Terminal. "about:config" is a Mozilla/Firefox web browser thing, not a Linux thing, and as your N810's default web browser is based upon Firefox, it uses that method of offering advanced configuration options.

A browser's user agent string identifies the browser to the web sites it visits. Some web sites alter the content, look, etc. of the pages they serve up depending upon the user agent of the visiting browser. As that's not always what users want, they sometimes spoof the user agent strings of their browsers.

Thanks, sjgadsby. Interesting. I think I almost understood.

I don't have my tablet with me, but tonight I'll pull up the about:config via microb. I'm pretty sure I'll get lost at that point -- you're giving me way too much credit for understanding all of this.

My goal is to change the user agent (I guess) so that when I pull up the mobile site for MSN or hotmail, that page isn't directed to the full site. I doubt I'll be able to figure this out w/out some specific suggestions. You might not have enough info to help, but if you have a moment, I'd appreciate any help I can get on this.
