You can try the iphone at AT&T Wireless stores. The itouch is exactly like an iphone without the phone.

It's quite easy to find a apple store near me. But not Nokia. There are tons of carrier stores like AT&T, VERIZON that carries Nokia but all are phones !
I find there are a lot of electronic stores that carry the N810, most third party cell phones vendors. Well, in NYC anyway. I don't know if they'd actually let people play with it and see how it work.

I had my first chance to play with an iTouch last week at an HMV Music store (in the UK) where they are on display for anyone to play with.

Wow! The screen, the scrolling, the multi-touch, the general attention to detail is fabulous. My first thought was - how will I ever go back to the N800 after this?

But then I got home and got out the N800. That large screen, a highly-functional web browser, yep, how could I ever have thought that the iTouch could come close...

Then I received a 32GB card that I had ordered a few days before. I copied across my 29GB music collection then discovered that the N800 media players don't handle a big collection like that very well. Oh well, I bought the N800 as an internet tablet, not as a music player.

So yeah, if you're in the market for one of these you really should try them out first if you can.

Regards,
Roger

What program were you using? Curious as I put what I thought to be a rather large collection of music (~2GB) on the external SD and used XMMS to play them with no problem. Just added the entire music directory.

So I'm just curious as to what happened with your large collection. Perhaps metalayer crawler went nuts?

Pro'ly has to do with directory size. Break-up your directories if they are over 2GB in size.

Thanks sondjata and YoDude. I just copied across my iTunes music files (none of them are DRM). Canola won't play the m4a files. Media Player plays them OK in random mode, but if I select "Songs" and start to scroll, it soon crashes (maybe 3500 songs in the scrolling window is too much) - so I don't know how to find a specific song using Media Player.

Nor can I find a way to locate a specific song in MediaBox, except by going into the album. But that doesn't work for me because part of my collection is albums like "25 Years of Rock'n'Roll: 1972" and MediaBox doesn't display enough of the title for me to see whether it's 1972, 1973, 1974 etc.

I'll try XMMS though. Thanks for the suggestion. Failing that, I might even end up using q335r49's "vi hack music player".

Anyway, I'm not complaining. 32GB cards didn't even exist when the N800 was on sale, and I didn't buy the tablet as a music player. I'm just observing that the process is more seamless on an iTouch.

Regards,
Roger

Apple stores carry the iPod, so no problem there

There is a educational suite available on the tablets. Its really huge though, and I forget what it is called.

<shameless plug>

Also, you can try out ezschool.com. All our games work on the small tablet screen, and they are designed for the younger crowd.

Oh, and please say if you think anything should be made better / if there are any problems!
Thesandlord,
The ezschool website is cool, just what I want for my kids, it is mostly online. Can the N810 run those online games ? It seems to run with adobe flash 9. How's the touch screen with those games ?

Correct me if I'm wrong, the new 2nd gen itouch is still not able to run those flash 9 easily right ? I saw some patches or work-around that says enable itouch to run youtube and flash video, it doesn't seems direct and might not be 100% proven right for all websites ? There are so many flash 9 websites !

It would be nice if there is a N8X0 club in town to showcase the devices (Nokia, Itouch, archos ..etc).

Thanks,

Yes, the N810 can run all (most?) of the games. They are not very flashy, so no problems with speed!

iPod touch does not play flash. That "hack" seems to be really bad, and its only on jailbroken devices, and probably only video... One of the biggest problems with iPod.

In fact, can you even jailbrake a 2nd Gen touch?
