@sevla: i'd buy that argument if the n900 sports crt screen and flashes willdly in the videos. Unfortunately this isn't the case. It's apparent (to me anyway) in all n900 videos so far from all angles. It visible in horizontal scrolls like when switching desktops.

@ysss I can only imagine you really know what you're looking for. Even looking closely I didn't notice anything. Maybe you see at a higher framerate than me ;-)
Are you someone that can tell what Hz a monitor runs at just by looking at it?

Check out Witter, a twitter client for N900
http://danielwould.wordpress.com/witter

If Witter isn't working for you, eg crashes/doesn't start, gives errors etc etc. Please run it from x-term using:
run-standalone.sh python2.5 /opt/witter/witter.py

This will generate diagnostic output. Without this I cannot help you.

There's some tearing noticeable in some circumstances using the device in practice. But not really noticeable.

It's also still undergoing heavy development. Peter Schneider described some of their agile development processes, automated regression testing, continuous integration and continually updated test images available internally. Lots still going on undeer the covers between now & October.

Another video and podcast about the N900 from JKK mobile and Chippy:

The flash performance is disappointing.

Other than that, the device looks really good.

CRT screens, yes, but not LCD screens. I'm a PC gamer.. vsync tearing is one common gripes when playing FPS (first person shooter) because it easily breaks the immersiveness of 3D environment when you can see your whole screen 'breaks' in the middle =P

At any rate, N900 has no technical excuse to have vsync tearing *grumbles*.

I'm waiting for the final version before I b*tch more about this issue

It seems variable: works well on YouTube, but less so on other sites. Apparently still being worked on, so it may get better.

Oh, it's so good :-)

Looks like the firmware needs a few tweaks, but that will come as ever with Nokia.

I presume you can turn flash off like before.

I think youtube mileage will vary. Even on my pc I notice that some youtube vids take longer to load then others.

In that video the n900 is playing a youtube vid very smoothly so I think it's also heavily dependent on your wifi connection as well.

@ysss LCD's don't refresh the same way CRT's do but they do replace the image at some interval and the camera taking them videos are running at a specific number of fps. So the net result can be something that isn't quite life like.

@theflew: thanks for the clarification. But I've read a few reports from people who've had some hands on time with the N900 to have seen the v-sync tearing issue. The latest one was by a member of this forum:
