of course you can but it most probably leads to the situation where watchdog reboots your phone. I'm not sure so lets wait for some expert to answer this.

I was unable to remove wlan module with rmmod, so it isn't a solution.

what to do if someone really wants the wlan to be turned totally off?

yes, it's not good to let wifi online , because it can use more power

wifi isn't online unless you use wifi connection or keep connection selection screen open 24/7...

Wrong... the AP here at work sucks at implementing powersave mode, so it drains my battery in half a day. So I want to disable WIFI while I'm at my desk.

When I disconnect it reconnects again automatically. I want it to reconnect on other WLAN, not the one at work.

I think the request to be able to disable WIFI is a valid one. The Cellular modem button controls could maybe be extended to include pure phone mode...

I havent tested it out yet but there's an app in Extras Testing called Wif-fi Switcher.
it turns off the WLAN radio....

Works for me. Better Battery life and it wont search for wifi until you deactivate it.
