I wonder if it is more to do with streaming vs local. I was playing a video I'd re-encoded (stupid 720p limitations) from a web server that I had setup, and it would restart if I paused and switched away.
Interestingly enough, Kmplayer with the "osso" backend does not do that.

Slight back-peddle from Nokia there then. They clearly show in the promo vid's for the N900 the movie '9' being sent back to the task manager and playing.
Interestingly enough, Kmplayer with the "osso" backend does not do that.
