It sounds like your device could be in a really instable state.

A reflash is probably a really good idea.

ok reinstalled the 51.1 update and everything seems fine now going to give rootsh another try.

But let that be a warning be carefull of the debian packages they can cause problems.

I also did the root check you posted earlier it says im using 142.9M out of 227M how is that when I just reloaded most of the stuff? is there a way to clean it?

Are you sure that you install rootsh from Maemo repository but it is not ... well, badly formed package (skipping word "troan")?

Yeah.. even a clean install actually uses a lot more of the root FS than I personally think it should. There are several solutions around the forum, as well as a brainstorm, on repartitioning the devices to give you more space and help alleviate the full root problem.

I would just get it from the Application Manager... not downloading it directly.

if i type 'rootsh' in to xterm i get the same message saying that it has been depricated and to use 'root' or 'sudo gainroot' commands instead, which work fine by the way,
so i'm gessing there no need for rootsh anymore

No it's always been root or sudo gainroot.... maybe thats the confusion. I don't think anyone actually runs the literal command "rootsh"?

i know that, but i was look for an answer to a different question and as someone talked about typing 'rootsh' into xtern to config i tried it about 2 mins before i stumbled across this thread.

im new to maemo and it confused.com me as i didn't know 'root' worked as 'sudo gainroot'. thats my problem anyway when i type sudo gainroot this morning its asking for a password(bugger) but was working fine till then as i was using last night to enable reboot from the menu mod.

any ideas to my problem and the depricated problem?
