This app had a nasty bug and is removed from the testing queue. The version 0.5 is a dummy package. The bug has been fixed and i uploaded the package 0.6 to garage.

The package is still under testing. So, if you would like to use it as end user, pls dont install.

Installed 0.6 and installation went ok. Tried it out and I am quiete impressed with it so far. Locks phone straight away once message is received. You have to start the daemon after reboots or turning the phone off. This is a little bug which I will file but as long as you enable phone lock in N900 settings it asks you for unlock code when you switch it on anyway. Good application but use with caution while users test as a previous bug was quite major. big ups to developer

Thanks. You are right, the daemon has to be run manually. This is done to give full control of the software to the testing team so that we dont end up like the previous nasty bug. Once the app becomes stable then it could be made to start automatically.

More testers are needed for this app. I think it has great potential and is a must have for this kind of phone. Posting the garage link again. Please test and develop. https://garage.maemo.org/projects/remotesecurity
My one impovement for later development is maybe a message could be made to pop up when locked with owners contact details on there. Just in case there are any honest people left in the world.

Remote Access Mode: Active or Passive?

What should I choose? What is the difference?

If 'Active' mode is choosen each sms is scanned. If 'Passive' mode is choosen only when there is a major change in the device state (like SIM card change, offline). Passive mode has to be tested more. I have jotted few FAQs in rs-faq.txt file. It should be installed in /usr/share/doc/rs directory.

The background of having two modes was the assumption that power could be saved. But, not sure if this assumption is really true.

Okay thank you.

I tried the active mode and send me a short message with the keyword but nothing happened.
