That's odd - it should log the connection at least (it's obviously connecting, going from your client log earlier). Try restarting the freeSSHd service - it may not have picked up the change in logging (it usually does, in my experience though). After restarting the service, check that it's actually logged the startup.

yeah I restarted the service and its adding that info to the log but not any connections.

When trying to connect if I just leave the N900 at the password prompt and look at the freesshd software it shows me one user logged in (but with no name) once I enter the password and get the error it shows as no users logged in.

So its definitely getting through the firewall and the software is seeing the attempt but I cant understand why its not logging anything.

I just tried regenerating my keys but this time with no password and that gives me exactly the same error.

That's peculiar. Anyway, a couple of thoughts. Can you check that the Public key folder (on the Authentication tab) is set to C:\Program Files\freeSSHd (I think that's the default but I might be wrong). The only other thing I can think of off-hand is that the user may need to exist on the system, so make sure the user you create in freeSSHd is a valid Windows user.

Hi Rob1n,

thanks for all your efforts. Yes the default path was as you said and I tried creating a user that exists in windows but still no luck.

Please don't feel any pressure to spend anymore time on it, I'll try to figure it out and if I'm successful i'll post my results here.

Hi Rob1n/All,

Wierd but I have fixed it, I had to use the "Unload" option from the taskbar icon and relaunch the software, stopping and starting alone made no difference.

Now I'm in!

Great! Can you confirm whether the user has to exist as a windows account?

Arrrgh, spoke to soon

I can now create a connection and have access to the dos prompt, but the dos prompt is screwy, it doesn't erase existing text on the screen so I can barely read the new text that appears(is this normal?), but commands such as cd and dir all seem to work as expected.

as soon as I try to connect via VNC i get an "unable to connect to server error", switching back to terminal shows me that ssh has been killed, leaving an error "buffer_get_ret: trying to get more bytes 4 than in buffer 0 "

Google has suggested a few things but i'm rapidly begining to lose patience

Sounds like the tunnel isn't connecting okay. Can you make sure that the VNC server is set to listen on localhost (there's an "Allow loopback connections" setting on mine here). If that still doesn't help, you can try changing the config file to say:

LocalForward localhost:5900 127.0.0.1:5900

As for the command prompt, I'm not sure - I'll have a check on that when I get home. That shouldn't really matter though, as there's no real need to do anything in there.
