Well this is a rather poor name..

http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/11/n...ixel-camera-7/
Last but not least is mention of the N8-00 (aka, N87 using traditional Nokia naming) -- the best Nokia will have to offer in the first half of the year. Scheduled for a summer release, it will feature a 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen for the new Symbian^3 OS' multitouch and gesture support. It's also said to pack a 12 megapixel camera that grabs 720p/30fps video with HDMI-out to quickly share the events you capture or videos pulled from a new video on demand service rumored for the Ovi store. We can't confirm any of this yet, but we will be meeting with Nokia at Mobile World Congress in just a few days -- Monday to be exact -- so it won't be long.

Damn, I like that! If the build is solid enough (ala E71), runs S^3... maybe even upgradable to S^4... then woah, very nice.

I see it being helpful for Nokia having two platforms to develop on. Different teams being run by different people and when other comes up with something, they can share and get better.

Don't think that pic is real, but who knows.

All good what happens to Maemo will be good for Symbian Foundation and other way around. It should not be looked as Maemo and Symbian would be competing each other.

Anyways it's spec wise great looking device. Interested to see how the device and looks and maybe even more how the Symbian^3 looks. Most probally many of us might find similarities with both of these operating systems UIs.
First Symbian Foundation milestone device from Nokia should be seen 1H and other one 2H 2010.

Both Symbian and Maemo will share the high-end in the future but as it stands only thing maemo holds over Symbian is high-end chip sets but we will see same chips sets in some of Nokias Symbian devices so that will cancel that out.
The S series will probably be high-end as in this kind of rubbish http://shop.nokia.co.uk/nokia-uk/pro...&culture=en-GB
Depends on what you mean isn't ready for super high-end. Maemo has more plumbing than any phone OS to build upon. Applications can be written easily. Talk to Palm how hard it is to come up with a new OS.

May not be hard to program Maemo apps; however not many companies are doing it yet.

The number is growing. At the Santa Clara event I met with quite a few reps who were interested.

I think QT is the secret behind; it will be much easier to write apps running on both worlds...

this "N8" has a lot of the features the rumoured 2nd maemo 5 device was supposed to have (sept 2009 there was talk about maemo 5 device that would be "high resolution", but have no physical keyboard)
