Me too i'm hesitating in overclocking the phone! 'cause it seems that the N900 is much reactive. The original thread is very heavy and we can get easily lost reading it!!
We need somebody who can explain us in details the Do's and Don'ts of this manipulation! Thanks!!!

now these are the poeple im talking about.... i understand them!!! i may not be that expert on linux but i dont think im stupid not to understand.
everybody had been a noob here before... so we must help one another here and not bullying one another.

i remember that first day i started using linux (ubuntu hardy)
the linux experts are so damn *******s that they treat new users like ****... thankfully there are good linux users out there too.

What is a noob? You have a definitive opinion about what they should or should not do, so you must know a precise definition.
In my observation, I have seen people describe themselves as noobs who have just arrived at this site. For example, I would describe you as a noob. Do you describe yourself as a noob?

If you want to get over noob status then there is going to be only one way out of it. Read and then maybe read and then also read and again read. Search search and again search and search. This place is full of summaries of overclocking in here talk and in wiki and you just have to find them and read them. Simple as that.
Most of people are not so stupid that they do not understand but sadly people are quite often (including me) quite lazy (actually that is imho one aspect of stupidity).
Use search and power search.

stop fighting, noob or not... this is a community for discussion and help(to find answers). Overclocking is at the discretion of the owner regardless if the person is a noob or not. A kind sense of help however is merely a touch of keys on the keyboard.... from a person who has the answers.... if you don't want to share then don't share but don't write selfish and negative remarks like "If you are a noob, Do NOT overclock !!!" as if you are depriving this poor guy from altering his phone to something that could be better than the state that it is in now.

"Safe" overclocking has to proven over time. It may work fine over the next few weeks/months, it won't explode or combust, but little things may start happening (e.g. random lock-ups, "unexplained" application crashes) you may not notice it straight away - no matter how many times you re-flash the n900 the problems will persist.
Your device is now royally f***ed!
The CPU may not fail but other components may get damaged. Heat and battery-load will cause problems (especially in a teeny-weeny densely populated device).
Running anything beyond it's specification is risky.
If we are very lucky the n900 is built so well it can handle reasonable increases in clock speed and everything is ok - maybe I am being paranoid.
I will wait a few months and see what happens before I try anything like this.
