There should be a big banner on this site with big red letters saying "IF YOU EXPECT THE N900 TO BE ABLE TO DO ALL THE SAME THINGS AS ANY DEVICE MADE IN THE LAST THREE YEARS DON'T BUY IT BECAUSE IT CAN'T"

I know, it can't restrict me and do all sorts of fun things with DRM and anti-user security protocols. I demand a refund and a shiny, new pair of handcuffs!

Definitely an uninformed purchase, but the features that are missing; they're actually missing.

I've been paid to beta-test software and hardware in the past. I've actually received discounts once the beta test was over. To the uninformed, you all paid $500+ for Nokia to experiment on you and you didn't even get a chance to benefit from continued support and/or features that would have hushed all of these kinds of threads in the near future.

And to think... it just got released in HK, India and other areas. These kind of threads will only increase.

You have to just think of things from other perspectives. Some are happy with the lack of features but openness of the platform. Some want it all upfront without having to code, or share with the community one bit. Some... well, they actually get it and have embraced the N900.

But to dismiss without showing the way/idea of this community, you're just not helping at all.

Many of the things Nokia "missed" are possible through community apps/tweaks. I, for one, lurked in this forum for a month or so before making my purchase decision and knew exactly what I was getting into. If you don't like messing around with computers and learning something new, this is not the right device for you.

I dont get it, would u rather be able assign ring tones or play Mario Golf on a GBA emulator?! The N900 has got so much going for it, if u wanted a phone, buy a phone, some of the things people complain about make me laugh. Why not buy android or Iphone if you want to get 1000s of apps you pay for that serve little long-term purpose, you have the internet in your hands, you dont need 1000s of apps... There's a reason hundreds of sites review phones etc, so the consumer makes an informed purchase.... Its like buying a Ford Focus and then complaining its not as fast as a ferrari, you can fit more luggage in a focus, is all horses for courses.... I agree some things are missing, but its hardly a secret, just google N900 and hundres of threads like this can be found...

What was Nokia N800 support when he appeared? How many games created by specialized companies have emerged? And last but not least what device you've seen frequent software updates? I do not think Sony Ericsson and Samsung phones have improved more frequent or more mature operating system.

Admittedly, my patience is wearing thin with all the "n900 is crap, older/newer phones can do xyz so much better" threads. I just think a generic "why" thread is pointless and only adds to the noise around here.

Apologies to the OP for the harsh nature of the post, but if you search around a bit you will find that many of the shortcomings of the n900 have relatively easy solutions available here in the forum.
