I am doing most of what you all do, additionally:
- use ssh to remote control my house music controller (which happens to be a Mac with iTunes)
- use GPS and eCoach to protocol biking, walking and shopping tours and upload instantly to www.heiaheia.com
- use other GPS software (Maep, Mappero, scanWIFI, GPSlog, etc.
- use FM Radio receiver
- share photos and videos to Ovi Share

and soon I hope to use Carman to read out the internals of my car via the OBD-II bus and Bluetooth...

I use it to answer phone calls. 9 times out of 10 the phone decides to rotate and I press the wrong button....

For a phone I find this really annoying... apart from that its no better then an iPhone to be honest apart from I can use the PC shortcuts of CTRL C etc.

I love it but at the end of the day its a phone and it does a very bad job of being a phone with the shite battery life and shite phone features... as a device its nice but as an end product its terrible...

And if you come back with... its an internet tablet then why cant I simply open flickr and see my own photos and full screen them.... other devices can but on the n900... ohhh nooo thats not avaiable.... you need to create an app for seeing photos on a web site..

If you have problem with the phone rotating, just go to Turning control in the phone settings and disable auto-rotation. Mine is fixed in portrait mode. I don't see any reason for using the phone app in landscape.

I don't want to get into comparing the phone to iphone or any other device in this discussion, but I do believe several items in my list would be either impossible or really difficult to do using iPhone. But again - there are enough threads already comparing N900 and iPhone, and I don't want this to turn into one.

And I'm not really sure I understand your issue with flickr. I just clicked on the link of a flickr slideshow I created in MicroB, and I got a full-screen slideshow working (without any special app). Not sure what's not working for you.

From a different thread, but still applicable:

I pretty much use my N900 for everything I used my netbook, music player, books and pen for up until now. It goes wherever I go and even replaced my desktop PC for various tasks. Guess for me that's more than enough evidence that it's not a mobile phone - because my imminent disgust for mobile phones would keep me from doing that.

Lately I also started to use it for the games. I'm not much into "phone" games - the only not-so-complex games I like are pretty much summed up by Brain Party - so I'm rather happy we have the various emulators for the N900. Nothing better than playing Albion, Baldur's Gate, Death Gate and the various other Legend Entertainment games while riding a train. Or during an extended bathroom visit...

I was also annoyed by this.

Solution:

Turn off the automatic rotation for the Phone app.
Mine is set to "Portrait" - it still appears as landscape when the device is open, but it doesn't boher me by trying to rotate when someone calls.

Recently one of my friend asked me "did you bring your laptop with you ?". I replied "Why". He said "I need to transfer some stuffs from one of mmc to another". I replied "Sure, just give it to me". Then I did the job with my N900 and he said "Last time I saw your laptop so large. Is it on dieting lolz?".
