The ForecaWeather widget sometimes seems to cause battery issues, although I think that is when you HAVEN'T let it do its first update yet (eg sat on desktop after fresh reboot).
Generally I find keeping the web browser closed when not in use and keep your default desktop empty of widgets that use the Internet, greatly reduces the chance of battery drain problems.
I dont use any widget on my desktop, only use shortcuts. As you mentioned, I do close the browser also when not in use.
I think when i manually disconnect the wifi, it still runs some process in the background, though i cant see any signal bars, but if the battery is not draining if i switch to offline mode and then back to online, it means it has to be an issue with wifi.
