Well I no fan boy, but I'll list out the reasons why i did not buy the iphone.

No SD card support.

No multitasking.

No abdobe flash support.

Cant send files over bluetooth to other devices except for other apple products.

Can't use iphone as a pendrive/hardrive, the iphone restricts anything else from being placed on it except for mp3's or pictures.

Lack of support for other mp3 codecs. A 64kps .ogg file takes up half the space of an mp3 or aac file and has the same sound quality. For eg 6GB in mp3's or aac files would be 3GB If converted to 64kps ogg file.

Jail breaking voids warranty, or even worst, spoils the device.

Don't ever sit on that thing or drop it, it cracks quite easily.

When it comes down to it, all the iphone has going for it is...apps

I can hack my n900 make my own scripts etc etc...
I could go on but I'll stop right there....

So a 2010 Honda Civic is superior to a 1908 Model T Ford and a 2020 Honda Civic can't be any better? Interesting.

Slight exaggeration aside, the following is coming from someone who has never handled an N900 and who owns two iPod Touches (1g and 3g):

Nokia N900
+ FM Transmitter
+ IR Transmitter
+ Hardware Keyboard
+ Memory Card Slot
+ Kickstand
+ 2 stage (I think, see above) camera button
+ Removable battery
+ Fine point stylus compatible (a must for some people)
+ Flash support (until HTML5 has an official, or at least universally implemented, open-source video format, Flash is better)

iPhone 4
- Updates break jailbreak
- Tethered to iTunes (hard-locked until first sync. Also "syncing" is a bit of a misnomer here, if something isn't checked to sync for a particular syncing, but rechecked in the future, it doesn't sync, instead iTunes overwrites what's on the iPhone. Not what I would call "syncing")
- Ethical Issues (although it's possible that Nokia does something similar): With refunds, developers return 100% of the app's price, despite only having been paid 70%. Apple keeps the other 30%. Although that doesn't apply to jailbreak apps, obviously. And developers don't mind, apparently.
- Mobile Safari has difficulty not crashing.
- Although jailbreaking has been declared legal, Apple appears to be attempting to find another way to prevent/kill jailbreaking
- Based on how Apple treats them, Apple seems to believe that iOS users are criminals of limited intelligence that should be put in asylums under guard.

I think the big problem for a lot of people (at least for me) is simply the environment that Apple cultivates around iOS, as mentioned in the last point under iPhone 4. Keep in mind that if your cousin is incapable of comprehending that different people can have different wants/needs, then he is also incapable of making a valid argument.

Iphone iOS4 vs maemo. Maemo still has a better, or much better web experience, and I'm not talking about flash (that it is a point, sure, but without it I would say the same).

However, indeed the maemo and the iOS4 are two systems though for different markets, that I would say compatibles. As a mobile, the iOS4 is fast, with the best display (iphone 4, not the 3gs), and provides key software, for instance maps. As a computer, the iOS4 fails. You need to follow the rules of apple, very difficult to handle files transfer as an example of how can the simplest thing be the more stupidly annoying thing. This is acceptable on a mobile, since you "use" the mobile not longer than 5-min sessions. But if you want to work for longer times, the iphone becomes frustrating.

Useless to say to somebody that uses the phone as a phone, of course. All things you say him to do, he'll answer he doesn't need them. And all things he says you to do, you'll see that the iphone does them better.

So, the best you can do, is to tell him you can use an entire linux there, openoffice, jdownloader, gimp, java, ... he can say it is useless in a mobile, but then you smile and answers, yes, the ferrari also has too many horses ...

Here in NZ everything so expensive. I'm thinking of join the plans just for the data plan but their plans is $40/month with only 250Mb, 30mins call, 300 text. Not enough and over priced

or just shove the overclocking procedure or the nitdroid easy installation on his face?or best yet, just open up a site with flash in it..maybe a proper facebook profile, with a video link in it.(install the flash tweak on your phone and then do it though :P)
