In that document there's a link to another guide, by Jakiman. That is the easiest to understand and what you should focus on.
I read the guide by Jakiman and it really helps. my question is what is the ideal overclocking limit? Is 250 850 okey? also, is it okey for that overclocking setup to be my default?

lastly, what does lv (little bit lower voltage) mean and do actually?

EDIT: additional question. is it recommended to install the QBW? if I install the STOCK widget, whenever I click it, will the phone revert back to its stock setup? what widgets should I install besides the Stock?

thanks everyone for the replies! after this questions are answered, I'm going to try to overclock my n900. wish me luck!

i think the lower the voltage the longer the battery last...
i use xlv for some reason i cant use ulv or starving profile when i play flash games it keeps refreshing/reloading the page so im stuck at 125 1000 xlv.

is xlv better than lv? also, why 125 as your lower limit in overclocking? any particular reason?

btw, what flash games can i play with n900? are FB games playable?

Hi,

I am also in need of some advice.
I have overclocked my n900.

How can I see that my phone runs good?
I think that my n900 slows down when I use the ideal settings.
I am wondering if overclocking can cause this or if the reason for the slowdown is an app.

Also at 1Ghz it runs without any reboots or other problems but it slows down.

Don't let the device running on 1Ghz for a long time. Use this only if you want to do intensive work / MyPaint. This lessens the risk of frying your chips :P

850Mhz is usually good for day to day use and will give you a boost at normal telephone behaviour.
I'm using ULV for 850mhz and 1gig. Ideal should keep the voltages to stock values. This can make your N900 more stable while being overclocked, but also risks to break the hardware if something goes terribly wrong.

So crashing with ULV / XLV is better than burning a hole in it with ideal.

Also there was a discussion about OC'd kernels and that they would save power by doing their work faster and then going faster back to sleep mode, rather than hanging longer on workload and sleeping later.

You will notice the speed boost with the Application Manager. It tends to be terribly slow at checking repository updates (enabling and disabling custom catalogs such as maemo-devel, maemo-extras).

so 850 is a safe bet right? but what about the lower limit? is 250 okey just like the guide did when he overclocked his n900? also, which should i use, lv, xlv, or ulv?

and yeah, the apps manager tends to be really slow when checking updates and downloads.

250MHz lower limit, and it doesn't matter how high you set it, as I stated earlier, just so long as you don't keep it at 100% load for days on end, which is highly unlikely anyway. That's why the scaling is in place.

don't use the default application manager, install and use 'Faster Application Manager' from the repos, or just apt-get from xterm.

hmm why i chose 125 dunno maybe because i dont see any big diff between 125 250 or 500 try it for yourself try changing limits what suits you best.

the only reason i put it on 1000 max freq because theres no proof yet somebody fried their cpu's its more likely youll fry your battery first.

im playing this game www.stickmangames.org/play/77.html
starving profile i get that never ending refresh when browsing and tried lv for some reason my videos wont play so i went to xlv no problems since then.

We're talking in terms of propabilities here.
There is a small chance that it will last only 9 years instead of 10 (maybe there is also a chance of exploding right in someones face but it's just infinitesimal small).

My usual settings in day to day use are 850-to-125 with ULV profile.
This works stable for almost everything since I've started with it three months ago.

I had two or three crashes since then which we're caused by microB when displaying websites with heavy flash in it. Temperature is down at 15°C to 25°C.

If I remind correctly the ordering is
xlv, ulv, lv, ideal
<-- low ---------- normal --->
so try first with lv, then with ulv and when everything is stable there, try xlv.
If you're working with the kernel-power kernel (titan) the device will restore 600mhz as default after a reboot, if you haven't changed this.
