You can also user an app "tracker cfg" to configure which folder(s) is scanned/indexed by tracker.

As for hiding folders from GUI - follow fareed_xtreme's advice.

In Linux ANY folder starting with a . (dot) are hidden folders. So won't be indexed by N900.

HOWEVER in windows you WILL STILL BA ABLE TO SEE THAT FOLDER! So you also need to set the attributes to hidden - otherwise connecting it to a PC will quickly show even hidden folders.

Just a hint:
By default the tracker is not indexing hidden folders (with "." at the beginning).
I wrote me a simple toggle-script to make a folder visible/hidden. Makes live easier sometimes and works flawlessly with the tracker.

If you have a windows pc open the command prompt and type
cd\ enter
md .videos enter

You then should have a directory on the c drive called .videos
put your videos in there and then copy over the directory to n900 in mass storage mode.
to play videos you must use the web browser.

file:///media/mmc1 (memory card)
file:///home/user/MyDocs (internal memory)
same steps applies with other files
