The latest GTK beta 5 is normally equal or faster than MicroB on rendering pages. It is still slow at first start up which is not strange as MicroB is always loaded. It also has a much better feauture set (just loves tabs) except for selecting text where MicroB still rocks.

The earlier betas was not as optimized as this and could freeze. Have not had that problem yet.

Ah that makes sense, a shame though, since that, for me, is it's most compelling feature. Doesn't seem to be a way to sync it from the command line (so it could sync in the background)

Why would that improve firefox startup time? At best, it would allow me to disable microb from loading in the background but that might cause a general improvement nothing specific to fennec...

It is good to see a browser alternative for Maemo internet tablets.

plus:
-it renders web quickly
-it is still under development (vs 'MicroB that is most probably finished)
-will suppot the popular FF add ons later (most probably)

negs:
-thinks tabs are requirement just like on desktop
-thinks address bar should be on top, not bottom
-thinks one day it will run smooth enough to impress instead of enervate with left / right scrolling to access tabs or bookmarks, back key etc..
-thinks a smaller Maemo task switching left up button that is only half as responsive will help grow its popularity

If Nokia deserves credit for something it is for the user interface integration of MicroB.

Firefox forking out one slow beta after the other might look into integrating and optimizing its interface.

For the casual users the tabbed interface can be kept as an option.

Did you try opera?
(I use it rarely, because I like MicroB)

Lol! All your negs are pluses in my book. I hate how MicroB open new windows on everything. It's easier to just slide.

The negs for me right now is:
- slow startup
- not fully optimized yet (but works great on 1,15Ghz)
- no arrow for selection of text

Opera 10.1 is a very good solution for Symbian^3 that frankly speaking has no browser that is up to modern standards.

By modern standard browser I beg you to understand any mobile browser that renders a web page just as your desktop browser does minus high screen resolution while allowing full and instant access to system resources for use by other applications.
However Opera does not deliver something superior to MicroB.

I wonder what the Nokia Maemo team had been smoking but they got it so right with the Maemo interface.

If one Eldar or some othe authority wasto leak a vid of Maemo as the next IcOS 5 or Android Marsmellow 4.0 the electronic consumer crowds might go wild in anticipation and forget about history unfolding in Egypt as we speak and follow closely from our N900's...

Yeah that would have been best.. but the way Fennec does it are good too. Fennec would be perfect if it was possible to make it load at startup as MicroB do. It would also be a plus if it could remember the last tabs more than the last session.

I think this applies to all versions, paraphrased from the Maemo Wiki entry for Firefox Mobile

on mine it gets 20,000 browsermarks compared to 15,000 in opera, and 10,000 in microB
It still uses way too much ram and is unusable for me though, like if I get a phone call it will be frozen until the phone stops ringing.
