"mplayer -loop 0 noise.wav" should play forever, but I doubt it'll be seamless.

I bought a one-track CD called "Dreamy Music for Sleep". It is a non-rhymthmic, tonal progression which is "scientifically-designed" to stimulate delta-wave patterns and enhance sleep. Since there are no melodies or patterns to focus on, it literally bores your mind to sleep.

You could rip it to an mp3 file and put that into the Media Player on auto-repeat.

Conversations or the television in the next room can be masked with the sound of white noise.
