Ok, an update for anyone else that ever experiences this, searches, and discovers this thread...

I performed the apt-get install --reinstall kernel-power-modules while sitting in PR 1.3 (stock kernel) and it pulled down the kernel-power and the modules.

I then performed a apt-get install kernel-power-flasher then rebooted.

N900 is now running on the kernel and my sim is recognized.

If you don't know how to check your N900's uptime, you probably shouldn't own it.

Actually, I had a host of issues, including the dreaded "All telephony functions" a short while after reboot. Weird stuff.
