Uninstalling Advance monitor would surely work .. the issue was posted here to find a resolution for the conflict and not to uninstall the app and wait and sit !

i had the same error a few days ago after some updates
the following worked for me:
1. start xterm
2. login as root (sudo gainroot)
3. apt-get advanced-power-monitor --reinstall
4. wait a few sec
5. ...profit!
