I know it can be quite risky.. Is it worth me doing a complete hard factory reset which would be the EmmC and something else right?

Thanks guys.

The easiest way to (re-)flash is to Download Nokia PC Suite & select "Update" via "Nokia Software Updater"

It will take about 15 min (using ADSL connection in Sydney) - I have done this twice myself in the last two days, and the second time took about 2 min - as the image had already been downloaded.

& there you are, re-flashed N900!

I have tried this method but it is syaing there are no current updates because i actually have the latest firmware. I was just interested in reflashing with the same firmware. Thanks for your help anyway though

Ah ive actually just noticed something!
Im on Nokia Ovi Suite now and it says this: 'Device software version 20.2010.36.2 installed. If you are having problems with it you can reninstall it

Now looking at the guide here: http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_tablet_firmware it says this "The Nokia Software Updater can only be used when updating from a previous firmware to a new one. To reflash with the same firmware you currently have, or if you missed an update, use the flasher"

Is that above ^^ information out of date and now in actual fact, i can update it via the ovi suite software?

Thanks

Yes, the middle paragraph is (now) out of date. So I've edited the wiki to reflect this. See Updating_the_tablet_firmware

BUT use PC Suite - don't put yourself through the pain that is OVI Suite.

I repeat - PC Suite!

You can have both, I just find using PC Suite easier.
