I am not only new to Nokia 800 but the operating system. I am a Win XP and IE user. I can't even get the game Bejeweled to install. I am having problems with Pidgin for Yahoo also. I don't personally know anyone else that has a N800 that could help me either. I am finding it flustering. So I am not using it as much as I thought I would. I just wish installing was simpler or automatic with a simple click like windows xp. Also wish there was more software for it.

katkat, don't worry, the N800 is (mostly) simpler than installing on Windows.

Most apps with the green arrow next to them can be installed with a simple click.

If you haven't seen it already, hopefully this tutorial will help:

If it doesn't, post what you're having trouble with and we can try and help.

As for more software, Linux has a lot of really cool stuff out there, it's just a question of waiting for it to be converted to a form that the N800 can use. Bear in mind the N800 as a software platform is only ten months old, it takes a while for these conversions to happen.

There was an update not too long ago. Give it a try again. I got te update to work.

BTW, its just a reader. There is gnomesword but no one has took the time to package it together and I don't have the know-how.

Other apps needed:
-Word processor (not abiword)
-Money program
-Sync program (for contacts)

I bought my N800 to use for the Internet when traveling and not have to bring along a heavy laptop. It connected with ease to the Hotel wireless Internet. The Internet is now available on Nintendo DS for about $30 and the price of the Nintendo is around $130. I think I would of been better off going that route because of the available games. The 6 year old can operate the Nintendo.

Search for Grisbi. In addition to running on the N770/N800, it runs on pretty much any other platform/distribution you can imagine.
