A bit more off-topic (this is more of a blog post, so yeah), but if you had a N900, the situation we're in is kinda ironic.

Most of the discussion regarding the use of the space on the NAND revolved around "How do we not use/use as little as possible of this space?".

Now, on the N9, it's revolving around "How do we use all this free space?"

Oh well, that's just the way it is, I guess.
Harmattan would definitely not fit on it - the compression ratio on UBIFS is ~20-30% in real life. So unless you would like to dabble in the horrible mess that is optification, it's not ideal.
I'm currently running NITDroid on it for now, which provides a mild speed boost.
But once the Recovery/MiniOS comes, I know what I'm doing with it

What comes to my mind, regarding filesytem space...
When I built my first linux kernel, I had a HUGE disk on my computer, it was a 30MB esdi/RLL thing mounted on a extension card on the PC bus, prior to such modern things like ATA disks...

My distro was Slackware, hand-installed from floppy disks. On the same disk (mind you, the disk was so large I had several partitions on it...) I also had windows 3.1, Autocad (must have been 8.xx?) and several really topnotch games (Ultima Underworld etc...)

And now I have a partition 16*size, I even dont know how much faster, just laying there empty
