Easiest way to always fix emoticons is to just reset the cache. The app Theme Changer (not theme settings) has an option to allow you to clear the cache to restore the emoticons.
Of course you can get the stock ones and do it manually but its a pita compared to the one-click solution
Installed sailfish theme by sailfish_0.1.deb and then changed theme by ThemeChanger to sailfish and that's OK.
But when returning to Blanco or Blue inverted with ThemeChanger incl. Fix cache and even reboot the background is red and can't remove this ugly colour!
Re-use sailfish change colour to the correct sailfisk background
OK uninstalling sailfish_0.1.deb removed the red background again - but it's a bug?!
