Low market interest means only very few units will be sold, and there are minimum order quantities and economy of scale that'd make production cost much more than what one could sell for... Ending something because it's not economically viable and eats money rather than bringing a single cent is not greed, especially not when offering a full refund to everyone who invested while this is in no way an obligation with kickstarter projects.

There's a risk in being an early adopter or backing a kickstarter campaign and that is known upfront, so I don't understand the bitterness. It's sad keyboardmod did not work out but motorola phones and keyboardmods will be the last thing anyone cares to think about when we have pro1 in our hands...

The reason for cancelling the mass production of the Moto-Keyboard was that Motorola suddenly decided to cancel their support for MotoMods (technical, marketing, distribution etc.)

You can read the details e.g. here at TMO, instead of drawing broken analogies, speculating etc.
"Use the force, read the source" is quite meaningful far beyond Free Software!

The team who was in connection with them has changed, as far as I know, there were no responses from Motorola for a while. It took some time for them to be able to communicate the team again (with their successor?) in some way; there were special parts necessary for the connection with the phone which had to be ordered in high volume, etc... It seemed not to be an easy thing to even communicating with the Moto team after it... anyway, I am not an insider...

...but with Keyboard Mod, they were depend mostly on Motorola, their approving scheme and parts which had to be ordered in much higher quantity than they was really need...

For all we know so far, the real benefit was to get the device earlier. Not that we know when exactly we will get it or how many orders are in the first batch, but we do know that ordering now means a later delivery.

Since we do not know yet whether the Pro1 will be a commercial success (I hope it will, F(x)tec surely deserves their hard work to pay off), pre-ordering was also a way to make sure we would get a device, since we knew the first batch was already funded. But let's hope there will be other batches, would be best both for customers and manufacturers.

We have changed the coating and the oxidising process of metal of the back cover to make it more matte. And that's all. Compared with July units that you have seen, the new back cover certainly being less slippery and captures less fingerprint. Feedback we received compared with July back cover has been mostly positive given it's easier to grip and leaves less things on it.

Working hard to achieve the target at around mid of September for the very first batches.
